Brandon Allen will make the 53. Shanahan knows firsthand how important having three QB's is.

I really hope they don't cut Beal, I think he has upside, also I think Jalen Graham makes it, I'd keep him over DFF TBH, but I do see DFF making it, I also like Bethune, it sucks, we legit have 7-8 LBs who deserve a spot, but only keep 5-6, I'd like to see them keep in addition to Warner & Campbell, Winters, Graham, Bethune, & Robinson, I'm kinda worried Robinson gets claimed, as he has to go thru waivers.

I also like the idea of trading for another EDGE, but just not at the expense of losing Beal, or potentially losing him off of waivers, I'd, honestly, cut Allen, keep a 6th LB, or a 9th DL, also put Conley on the PS as he doesn't go thru waivers, and keep both a 6th LB & 9th DL.

What do you like about Beal?
It just doesn't seem like he's an imoactful nfl player at edge. He doesn't get pressures consistently and he is a big oof in run defending

He only played in four games as a rookie last year. Give him some time. He hasn't looked bad at all so far.
Who's everyone's surprise cuts?

Im guessing : Latu, Bell

I know, but if the rule that allows the PS QB to be the emergency 3rd QB doesn't count towards the 2 players elevated, or count against the max of 3 games, then I'd hope they cut him place him on the PS, save someone who we could lose via waivers.

He likely would make it through waivers to the PS

I wouldn't really consider them surprise cuts. A matter of fact most people are expecting it. Especially Bell.

He doesn't have to go thru waivers since he's a vested veteran.

Yeah I see QB depth as Purdy/Allen/Dobbs with Mordecai released, unclaimed and ending up on the practice squad.
About to get interesting…

What is this infatuation with Allen over Dobbs?

This offensive line is so trash. There's no way I would trust Allen to be able to handle pressure if he gets in. Dobbs would at the very least be able to escape a closing pocket and make something happen. Is Allen better in a clean pocket? Probably. But the pocket will not be clean the majority of drop backs. Colton getting absolutely worked by 2nd and 3rd stringers in preseason. Brendel has not been great either. Who knows if DP is going to be able to handle 1st string stunts and blitzes. This Oline is going to get absolutely f**king cooked this year.

Dobbs has this tendency to get wildly inaccurate so Allen is the safer pick for #2

Once Trent comes back, they can put Trent one on one and then slide the line towards Mckivitz. That should take care of most of the pass protection issues until the playoffs. After that, it will depend on if Felicano, Puni, Kingston and Banks plus the rest of the OLinemen are all healthy.

A big part of a QBs accuracy is just *knowing* the play and being able to anticipate where the windows are, and set your mechanics ahead of the windows opening. So in Dobbs case, he's been a lot more accurate vs guys like Darnold, Hoyer, and BeatHard. To me, he's a better backup than Allen.

If you are talking actual surprises, I would say
  • Elijah Mitchell - minimal dead cap and hold onto the developmental RB (Cody Schrader)
  • Dre Greenlaw - save $7M with $3M dead cap this year. The argument here is that you like the young talent at LB (Dee Winters, D Flannigan-Fowles, Jalen Graham, Curtis Robinson, Tatum Bethune), Greenlaw is in a contract year and also coming off a serious injury.
  • Mitch Wishnowsky - minimal dead cap and hold onto to cheaper option (Pressley Harvin)
