If you had a crystal ball and could control things, what would you prefer?
I completely understand the draft order and why it is done this way, but it seems as if a super bowl window closes pretty quickly in today's NFL. I don't know where I stand but I think I am leaning towards 2nd place which tells me that my needs are pretty minimal.
I think about that trade Chicago made with the Panthers, and can only imagine what it would feel like to win on both fronts. Imagine if we made a trade like that and a team imploded and got us a #1 overall pick, now imagine if this and a super bowl happened for us in the same season? Having a pick like that could keep our super bowl window open for a long time.
To be a consistent top 2 or 4 team means you have to be lights out at drafting (in the back end of the draft in each round) and scouting free agents.

I think in school they would call it a multiple choice question, but what do I know?

Would you like to have a lot of success? Marginal success? Or no success?

These responses show me why we are ok with Kyle's super bowl record as well as why we are ok with trading away B.A for an unknown draft pick.

Nah, I'm a real 49ers fan.
Eddie D, Candlestick, 5 rings, Bill Walsh 49ers fan.
This new 2nd place celebration mentality is the "no clue" version of the faithful. But you are right, I really have no clue what its like to celebrate 2nd place.

Not true, the die hards that understand the history would never settle for second place.
Nor would we settle for second place as being "successful". There is no one shoe fits all when it comes to Niner fans.

Every season there are two winners: the SB winner, and the #1 overall pick winner.
