Hey guys, not around nearly as much but hope that changes since the season is nearly upon us. I'm also gonna be trying to do some writing for the homepage. Here's my latest review of our preseason stuff. A couple things just for y'all that I didn't get to get to in the video but are some nuggets for the zone.
Cowing - showed willingness to block in the run game, smaller frame makes that tough. What I saw was what I saw when I went to the sr bowl. He's got a good ability to separate when given a free release off the line - struggles once he has to work through contact. That'll be something they'll have to manage with him. His smaller stature make him susceptible to physical play. But, he's got better route running than Danny Gray and it's not close.
Nick Zakelj was ok early on and was straight poo later. Frustrating. I was hoping for a lot more from him. DFF - dude was like he was stuck in quicksand, at times. Curtis Robinson and Dee Winters should immediately push him down the depth chart.
Mustapha is still adjusting to the NFL game. He's finding guys are faster and a little more slippery than they were in college. He's got the tools, needs to tighten up fundamentals.

Thanks, jd! I know it's preseason and schemes are basic, but please let us know if you see anything that stands out with Sorenson's defense that looks different from last year's.

Always appreciate jonny!
What did you think of Latu? Dude seems too soft to play on this roster which is a shame because it looks like he's got talent.

I really liked Latu coming out of college. He's thinking way too much. He's got good potential as both a blocker and receiver but something just seems off with him.

Hey, here's a clip from my pod on Friday. I went farther into the weeds on it and went detailed on something we brought back this year that Wilks didn't. It's about 10 min long and starts at the 28:30 mark:

Hey Jd! Good to see ya posting! Good and accurate summary of the players. Puni and Cowing are players to be excited about. I am also liking Renardo. There is some cleaning up needed by some players but definitely some things to be positive about:). Writing for the home page? That is fantastic. Looking forward to it 🙂. Also looking forward to your thoughts about the Sorensen D. Thanks for the vid:).

What are you seeing from the edge guys behind Gross-Matos? Do you feel confident in someone on the roster taking that 4th edge rusher spot or do you think that answer is on another team ATM?

Love seeing your work jonny. Just film and your take on it. It's great way to learn the game more and also get some great info. Glad you found the time to do a pod as well. Hopefully more 49er fans tune in to get a deeper understanding of the game.

That's kind of what I was meaning when I said they'll have to manage with him. It means there has to be more intention to getting him free releases, you can't just line him up like Aiyuk and have him go to work.
