All the new stadiums are like that now. The new San Diego State Aztecs College Football stadium (Snapdragon Stadium) is like that. Very limited parking compared to the prior Qualcomm Stadium (used to be Chargers and now knocked down). They want you to ride the San Diego Trolley in (similar to your BART). Then it's all corporate when you get there. Pay for all the food, drinks and tailgate. They do have some limited tailgating. It's just much smaller on purpose. They built a lot of condos, apartments, restaurants and bars on the prior parking areas. Some parking is still there that they re paved. The old and new stadium are on the same area but not the exact same footprint.

The long and short of it is they knocked out a lot of parking and you just have to pay for everything now.

Yea, they hide greed behind the green footprint movement.

This is really about their bottom line. Buying everything from them will keep everyone safe and increase the fan experience.

So what's the answer for those of us who like live sporting events? Stay and watch at home or go to away games?

It's totally all about the profits and taxes for local governments too. It turns out that a big parking lot is not that profitable. 8 - 9 home games (NFL) or 6 (College) per year. All the other days it sits empty. Except for concerts, soccer or political or religious events. Building developments like condos, office buildings, apartments, restaurants and bars comes with perpetual property taxes and sales taxes for those who are selling. Also for the grilled up burgers, steaks, corn on the cob or whatever you are making you now have to pay for it. So the restaurants and teams and College make more money. Because it's all part of their revenue.

The big parking lot and tailgate was a 60's - 90's concept. Lasted until about 2000's. 2010's and 2020's on up they are doing away with it all over the country. It's not just you guys or CA generally. I think it's terrible. I remember grilling out with family and throwing the football around. It also was much cheaper for a family to bring your own stuff in a cooler and grocery bag. Plus have a grill with you in the trunk. That was fun and cheap. Everything has to be so expensive now a days. I think it's taken a bad turn. I don't like it at all. They are pricing out families now unless you are well to do. It's unfair IMO.

As someone who has had season tickets since Candlestick, I can say that I actually really dislike how little the parking lots are policed. Back at Candlestick, the policy was that you could not block parking spots with your canopies, tables, bbq setups, etc. People would park back to back, pull out pretty far, and setup your tailgate in between the two cars. People would walk around and tell people to move their stuff. And while they werent nazis about it, it made sense. If you took up a little space, spilled into a spot of the lane (as long as you werent blocking traffic), it was largely ignored. But big tailgate operations were forced to move, and it made sense. I just find it frustrating as hell that people think that their tables and bbqs should take priority over your cars.

Look at the main picture from this article:

In this picture alone, you can see like 15 parking spots being taken up by canopies. That is absurd, and absolutely should not be allowed.

But with that being said, this new policy I am wholeheartedly against. Get to the game early enough, and there is plenty of parking. I really couldnt care less if people get to the game 15 minutes before kickoff and have trouble finding spots.

Yeah the people who take up 8 spaces for 2 cars and like 6 people total are ridiculous. Putting up big tents which are huge space eaters. Cool and gives you shade. But the parking spaces are for parking. So I can see it both ways. The technical rule is 1 space = 1 car and you were supposed to tailgate in front or behind of that in a very small area. Just a small grill. Occupying huge numbers of spaces knocks out parking for others coming to the game and is problematic.

At the old Chargers stadium (Qualcomm Stadium - now knocked down) they had some specific areas on the outer edges where you could put the big tent set ups. It was built for that and no spaces were marked there. So if you did it correctly you could put that up in allowed or designated areas.

But you should be able to have 5 friends park together 5 in a row. Assuming they are just using that front area for their tailgate. A very small area.

lol they did. Look for the 2023 email saying the same s**t. Last year our tailgate crew would meet up before and caravan in so we wouldn't get split up. It fell apart towards the end. I'm in Green Lot 1

I've been parking in the same spot with the same people in green lot 1 since the stadium opened and have never entered at the same time as anyone else in the group... With that said, we're always there at gate opening, maybe they just didn't enforce it before?

Yep. They did say the same thing last year, but they didnt enforce it. I have been tailgating at every home game since 97 (Pole E Tailgaters) from the Candlestick days. I know many people that have said if they start to enforce this parking rule they will not renew... Which will not do anything but line the pockets of the Yorks as they get to charge the next person PSL.. Its a shame. Let us do our thing and grow a set and enforce some of the moderate rules that were in place at the Stick!!!

The tailgating characteristics from candlestick should have shown that 49ers fans enjoy tailgating.

So, just like you draw up parking spaces for a parking lot it could have been configured for tailgating. So now you sell the tailgating space and not just the parking spaces. This way folks can't block off parking spots and tailgating is allowed for the fan experience. There has to be a way to feed this need for fans while also providing a safe parking lot for non tailgaters.

There are also designated tailgating areas at Levi, so why not make those areas functional for the tailgaters? Look at the pic above, clearly there is an appetite for tailgating. Those are 49ers fans!

Everything you just said sounds good in theory, but is totally unnecessary. I know I can speak for many others when I say I am not paying triple digits for a "tailgate space" in addition to my parking spot. If you aren't inconsiderate and put your tailgate spot in between the back of 2 cars or right in front ot them and not block the lane, there are no issues.

It's been a while since I went but the years I tailgated in green lot 1, several rows of parking spaces had a gap row running down the middle. Meaning cars weren't parked head on, but instead there was about a 6-8 foot gap that ran down the entire row.

I believe they repainted and got rid of these.. but why not go back to this? That made tailgating simple and reduced the issues everyone has mentioned.
We live in today's world of entitlement from fans to players.
I don't take my family to NFL games anymore also due to all the drunks. However the tv and online coverage is so much better hence watching from home is fantastic.

And for the folks that run late, that's on them.
Let's party.

Well, on behalf of bean counters everywhere....we hate you too.
