He's a special teams player. He's an awful safety. Brown is a below average safety as well. They have a lot of problems in that backend of the secondary
Yep should've added a solid vet to the mix

Just like the O-line they neglect the Safety position too.
They certainly did this year

Brown needs to be benched. I really hope they trade for a Safety, all the good ones on the market are gone.
I agree but we have limited options at the position currently and if they wouldn't sign a fa I'm not optimistic they'd trade for one at this point.

To add to your point, teams don't usually win losing the TOP. Of course they want to stop the other team from scoring, but there's strategy involved and discipline. Brown and Odum didn't show that.

3rd and long has been a huge issue for this team for years, and a huge reason is the safeties inability to cover.

The Vikings blanketed our receivers today. Not a lot guys open today. Brock had to throw pinpoint passes into tight windows.

I think I'll be that way until CMC is back. On passing downs, we have no pass catching threat out of the backfield so the D doesn't have to account for him much and the safety can stay in coverage
I'm afraid you're right and that points to a whole lot of wasted money at that WR position.
Can't wait to see what Ricky can do.
I don't see where he gets the reps unless there's injuries.

Perhaps PR or the guy that downs the ball in the endzone on KOs

It won't. Shanahan can't just commit to the running game. Mason was crushing them and he opens the game with 5 straight passes.

One how was Mason crushing them before the game started? Two mason had 20 carries, how many more would of won us the game? The run game kinda has to disappear when you are behind in the 4th by multiple scores.
Maybe they wouldn't have been behind if he'd have leaned on it more earlier.

But how much more? He had 20 carries. Hes not gonna run the ball 30+ times game after game. Does 5 more carries give them the win today? Doubtful.

Seems like he was benched. Barrows said that no injury report was provided during the game by the PR staff

He looked slow. Once he got burned over the top on that 97yd TD that was it. Mustapha the rookie got his number called

Some takeaways:

1. Safety room is a mess. Hufanga needs to get back ASAP, Odum was never a starter. Brown is much more suited to being close to the LoS than the FS role unfortunately.

2. I was withholding judgement on Campbell, but guy is slow, and doesnt have great IQ. Sometimes it feels like hes seeking to engage blocks, instead of tackling the runner. One play he was running up the seam with no one while his assignment got the ball in the flat with no one around him. We might be in trouble without Greenlaw, unlike Huf he might not play the entire year.

3. Brock was off. He was throwing some very dangerous passes, not taking easy passes, was rattled and confused. Honestly am a bit worried about defenses like what Flores runs, which is what Seattle runs nowadays.

4. CMC is sorely missed in the passing game, as he is the second best route runner on the team. Mason doesnt scare teams on passing downs.

5. Deebo and Warner probably made this a much close game than it should have been.

6. Kyle playcalling was ass. The cherry on the top were dumb screens to Deebo instead of trying to get a TD on the final drive.

5 plays can absolutely make a difference in a close game, maybe he scores on 4th and goal and there is no 97yd td pass and that alters the entire outcome of the game.

It doesn't look like we have anyone capable of playing the FS position on this roster and I don't know how it's possible for a confused QB to complete nearly 80% of his passes.
Silver lining, I don't think anyone was hurt.
Jefferson left the game and it seemed not to matter much lol

He had 30 carries last week. The game could have looked a lot different if we didn't rely on Purdy to throw 40 times and actually control the clock.
