Preseason deception: How was this group of DBs considered a strength?

This to me is the biggest mystery of the season so far. How was this group of DBs that can't seem to stop any chucked up deep pass considered a strength?

Some of it is clearly scheme, and some of it is clearly the lack of a true coverage Safety. But the group as a whole is also playing poorly.

So what did the beat writers see that tricked them, exactly?

The lack of targeting a FS was a clear offseason miss. They DB group as a whole seems to still have some miscommunications or plays where they are thinking rather than reacting. Feels like they aren't fully comfortable with the scheme yet.

Depth wise its the best the secondary has been since Jimmie Ward was on the team.

The issue is Mooney was having an all-pro year and this year hasnt been himself AND also has not traveled with the best WR like he has last year.

They trusted Yiadom to take the Ambry role and he's looking like Ambry. That's why Green needs as many snaps as possible. Lenoir, Ward, Yiadom all UFAs after this season.

Safeties were always a question with Huf out first couple of games. Even with Huf neither Huf nor Brown have speed. They arent fast and miss a lot of tackles and are out of position often.

They keep drafting strong safeties and no real centerfielder types.

Can't run this defense without a true centerfielder FS, wtf was they thinking!

We are also forgetting that Wilks knows how to coach dbs. Not a shock they look worse without him

I don't think that penalty on Green was a PI. His coverage was sticky but not a PI. We need to keep him out there for more reps because with Thomas or Yiadom they have hit their ceilings.

Huf looked lost at times and he's not wrapping up again. Im good with letting Mustapha play more than Jayit or Huf.

Getting Hufanga back will help with communication. This was his first game back and things looked "rusty."
