He was signed to the teams' practice squad last year, during the playoffs I think it was playoffs, then signed a reserve/futures deal after the Super Bowl, he looks like a keeper, would be just an ERFA after 2024, $1.03M tender for him & Jake Tonges, I hope we promote Evan Anderson to the 53-man roster sometime this season, even if we get Kalia Davis back, definitely if Davis isn't back.
Agree. Davis honestly looks like a good rotational piece at both DT spots, but the dude just can't stay healthy. Just like in college, solid player but unfortunately he's always hurt.
Luckily for the 49ers Davis isn't a UFA till 2027, he's a RFA after 2025 since he missed all of 2022, I'm not all concerned with injuries, the happen, I'll wait to judge whether Davis can be a long term answer or rotational piece or not, but Anderson & Okuayinonu are two good players that need to be kept. I'd like to also see Nugent get some time, doubt he will get signed by another team though.
They both have so much room to grow, I hate that Hargrave got hurt, but it really could be a blessing in disguise getting these guys reps. In this case, it's reps to get even better, versus just "less bad".
I think they both showed they can be contributors, and it's nice we should be able to keep all them, including Davis, for awhile. I expect we will add DT competition next year too as Givens might sign a bigger deal elsewhere if he keeps producing like this.

Kyle on Sam's performance:
"..he's been a beast in practice. And to watch him carry it over to the games is kind of what I'd like to say we expected because he's been such a pain in practice and in a good way just for our offense to deal with. And it was cool to see him do it to somebody else here on Sunday."
Shanahan doesn't just throw out praise like this to anybody. That's some serious props.

Agreed man, I agree 100%, sucks to lose Hargrave, but if Davis can come back strong, along with Anderson, and Elliott, plus we have Maliek Collins, and Kevin Givens, who I agree could get a bigger deal elsewhere, multi-year deal, nice to have guys for the future.

Yeah I saw him rush from inside, I remember Bosa doing that a couple yrs back, seems like the 49ers like to cross train or have guys who can play multiple DL spots.

I wonder why he wasn't getting rotated into games if he was blowing up practices like Kyle said?

He played in every game except week 2. Bosa said Sam had a minor injury, so maybe that's the only reason he missed the one game.

He fits this team character too. Was a team leader in college at Maryland. Solid length at 33.25" arms.
Please keep stacking and grow into a bookend star for us here!!
I like the Dumervil comp, really liked his game. Sam seems a bit quicker upfield
