sorry to hear that.
I guess, I suggest that you, and others that feel this way, just forget about this one, if it seems too hard. Leave it alone, try not to think about it further.
I sincerely don't want it to be "not as fun," or in any way frustrating.
But then again, I don't want to try and tell you what to do.
Who is,Troy Smith

  • Troy can be associated with "royalty," suggesting something of noble value.
  • Smith can evoke the idea of a craftsman or someone who forges, tying it back to the idea of creating something valuable, like gold.

While his last name doesn't directly relate to "gold," the combination of "Troy" (royalty) and "Smith" (forging) connects to the themes of value and craftsmanship associated with gold.

he's the only 49er, ever,
whose last name's forged from gold.

I think we can rule out anyone with a common-ish last name
Mark Anelli

Anelli- Latin for ring

Mark- name taken by both Popes and Kings....
Y.A. Tittle, cause one tittles for gold.
Garland Gregory because garland can be gold and his last name comes after or forged from that goldeny garland

Here's why:

  • "Sopoaga" literally means "gold" in Samoan, fitting the clue about his last name being "forged from gold."

Everybody, I am really enjoying just reading your thought processes in this.
I had to wait a whole month before I could make a post. It was worth the wait.

I singled out D0PEMAN's guess again because, actually, he is almost there.
But I think he maybe doesn't realize it. Or do you, D0PEMAN?

Patrick Willis
Because of the slogan, "Whatcu talkin' about Willis", which is from Different Strokes, which aired after the Golden Girls, so it formed after the show. Formed from gold.

Best answer yet!!
Charles Haley

Haley formed after the word Charles, which is from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory--where Charlie gets the golden ticket. Haley born in 1964 same year as that book was released. Clearly a connection here.
