Your clue gave it away. Figured you omitted the word 'who' before picked. So it was a jersey number reference.

Correct.
GREAT JOB!
For any that are interested, or curious, I had wanted to explain my thought process regarding the first question, that pointed to Dan Audick.

[Incidentally, there is an engaging story regarding a health issue he endured many years ago. It's on a facebook page, you can look it up. Also, he had a very successful career after football. And lastly, he talked about his on-field part during that legendary play known as "The Catch."]

I truly thought that someone connected with science, like especially a professor, maybe a student, or an engineer, or anyone who recalls their chemistry classes, would almost immediately think of Au at the mention of the word gold.

The question required that there be only one player whose last name began with the letters Au. And so there was.

Incidentally, I think someone thought that I intended to start this series by using a name that began with the second letter of the alphabet. Instead, I thought that by using a name that began with the letter A, people would begin their name search in the A's, finally see Dan Audick, remember that Au = gold, then know that he must be the answer.

Well, like I said, for those who were interested in knowing.

I appreciate the time fellows.

Question III – maybe Nov. 6 or 7, during the bye week.

Thank you!

Could it be that Alex Smith played defense of Brock Purdy on TV this year?

I found a football database that said Leo N. was a 1st round pick in 1950, and it lists him as DT/OT.
[1st Round, 11th overall, by the San Francisco 49ers, 1950)
But as I mentioned, Leo is not the answer.
Tom Cousiineau is also not the answer.

I see, your question was ambiguous. Picked number 1 means picked in the first round and not number 1 overall. I argue my answer still satisfies your question.

Hi father49er.
The object is to locate the name of the player whom I constructed the question around. So it is not to find any answer that might satisfy the question.
I had stated before that there may be other names that "appear" to be the answer, but they won't be the answer.
I am just trying to further clarify. I realize this can cause some frustration. I just hope that people find satisfaction, and discovery, in their search.

It wasn't about draft selection, but jersey number.

Appreciate the input OKC49erFan.

I would like to add: For a question like this one (1st one too for that matter), I would not want anybody thinking they need to go search every single 49er player ever drafted in the first round. Or that they need to search the entire 49er historical roster. So when you see a question like that, from me, you should figure that something else is up with this. Probably a very small group of players. Like in this case, the six who wore jersey No. 1.
