Yea, the argument wasn't about being able to find a good kicker anywhere at anytime. It was about the value of spending a 3rd round pick (your 2nd highest pick in the draft) on one when there are other options to acquire one.

Moody's been pretty good overall, and we'll probably miss him… but we also have a ton of other holes a good 3rd round pick could have filled.
Can he kick out of the endzone on Kickoffs? I'm more worried about that than FGs.
Welcome to the party...pal?

I rate this post SanDiego/10

It's a pretty good post.

it's better than having wishnowsky or juice kicking fgs

A good 3rd round pick. That's a big if. In the last 7 years they have had 11 3rd round picks. Only Warner, Ji'Ayir Brown, Puni and Moony are still on the team. Puni inherited the starting spot when Burford got injured and he looks like he'll be a keeper. That's 3 position players and a kicker and only Warner is a great player.

About 60% of 3rd round picks are still on their team after 3 years so the 49ers are below the league average.

I'm not sure what the best way. Kickers seem to go into slumps where they are bad 1 year and hot for 4 years. If Wright came in and made all the kicks and Patterson did not then would you really choose Patterson over Wright?

How are calculating the 60% i feel like its very misleading. Since 2000 only 25% of 3rd round picks have a career grade of average or better which indicates the 49ers are right around the league average.

Also the Niners have shown they will cut a player after a year if they don't show any signs of life while some teams will hold on to players in hope they develop into something. That could be driving your 60% argument, just bc 60% of the players are still on their teams doesnt mean 60% are worth anything.

I didn't like the value of a kicker in the 3rd round but if Moddy has a decent career with us then he beat the odds of succesfull 3rd round picks.
This is the kind of signing that could go Wright and could go WRONG.

It's the % of players still on the roster of the team that drafted them after 3 years. It drops to around 50%after 4 years. There are websites that show the numbers for each round. It doesn't mean they're stats or even starting. In the Niners case. only 4 of the 11 are still with the team. That includes the practice squad. The others have been released.
He'll win Special Team Player of The Week !

Picked him up in my F-League !!

Got it. I don't think that stat means much though other than some teams will hold on to players longer than others.
Matthew " Freddie Krueger " Wright !!!
