Other than Purdy, do we have another legit QB option?

If they finish 12-5, I don't see how they can move on to a rookie JJ McCarthy who is coming off a torn meniscus, so Minnesota may try to bring Darnold back.
They for sure bring him back

Purdy is a decent and above average QB. Is he the dominate elite QB who will carry a team to victory? I haven't seen that yet. He does benefit from other outstanding players but so did Montana and Young. However, there were times when big games were on the line that Montana and Young carried and willed the team to victory. Purdy in my opinion has yet to do that. That is why some dish on the man. I do think the 49ers need another QB in development but there are greater needs going into next year than Purdy at QB. Give the man some protection from the O Line and he can perform. Shanahan should adjust some of his play calling since other teams are adapting to him and the 49ers. There are a lot of reasons for the season this year, and honestly, I don't think the 49ers make the playoffs or if they do, they are out in the Wild Card or Division round. I want to see what they do to improve going into next year in terms of the draft, healing and adjustments to coaches. We'll be back, it's just been a rough year. We all have these from time to time and we adjust and overcome, so will the 49ers.

He then becomes a FA and we pay even more.

What team do you think would want him?

He's short and lacks arm strength.

NE, Carolina, Jets, Seattle, Giants, Saints, Raiders, Titans, Steelers, Rams (Due to Stafford's age), & Browns immediately come to mind.

Not saying Purdy is elite. But even decent QB's are tough to come by.

If ya wanna complain about Brock..look at some other qbs in the league. Lots of teams would love to have Brock.

Out of our backups, I like Tanner.

Finding a QB is one of the hardest things in the draft in general and our track record isn't great under this regime so letting him walk isn't really that simple. In addition if this season is a losing one, Kyle seat will be warm - and he will not want to go with a rookie QB or a journeyman given he will have to win next season to remain employed. I think as a result Brock will be offered a deal and he will sign. Quite what that deal would be who knows - the going rate is 60m now - and it will only get higher each year not that Brock is worth that - but the latest batch of QB's got contracts they weren't worth. Once the 49ers are mathematically eliminated from the play-offs they should give Tanner a game or two - just see what he has got. Other than that they need to keep drafting QB's and hopefully strike it rich.

Brock is good - Top 14 QB in my opinion, he is mobile and a good processor in general but his arm lacks strength and hence limits the offense to some degree, I wonder how durable he really is and there are questions on how well he can play when the 49ers need a game winning drive and whether he can play in inclement weather. If the 49ers want to stay relevant they have no choice they have to give him a contract if they don't then you can say we are a 4-6 win team next season.
QB's I'd take over Purdy:
Mahomes
Allen
Jackson
Burrow
Herbert
Hurts
Goff
Daniels
Nix
Murray
Stroud
Darnold is debatable
Stafford

I don't think Nix has played enough to say how good he'll be. His numbers s far are way below what Purdy put up in a similar time frame. Darnold has the physical tools but his decision making has always been an issue. I would cross Stafford off the list only because of his age (36). He's a great QB but he wouldn't be in the teams's future plans.
If Niners get all the comp picks they expect next year, they will have 11 picks total. You have to think one of them will be a QB. Which one and when? I would guess a day three pick and someone like Kyle McCord from Syracuse or Will Howard from Ohio State if they're even there late.

Kurtis Rourke from Indiana? not sure if he'll make it to day 3 though

They had to forfeit their 5th round pick and their 4th rounder got moved to the end of the round after the compensatory picks so in reality they have no 4th rounder. it becomes more like an early 5th rounder. There will be some compensatory picks but we don't know in what round they will be. If they end uo being 6th or 7th rounders they probably won't provide a lot of help.

This is projected to be a weak draft and a very weak QB draft. That means some picks that might be used by teams to get a QB will be used to grab a tackle, edge rusher or some other position.
