The good news is we won't be playing so late in the offseason that we can't have our pick of good DC and ST candidates.

I love Brock, I just think his mistakes have been magnified this year due to games being closer and us not having the defense or special teams to close these ones out. I still believe he can be an elite QB, but he needs better protection and just needs to find ways to cut down on some of those turnovers.

He was definitely shellshocked earlier in the season. He is sailing a lot of throw this year and I don't know if he's not setting his feet, has an injury, is in his own head, or some combination.

I think we could have a shot at either Saleh or Schwartz if Cleveland cleans house.
Not sure who would be good on special teams. I would like a new OL coach honestly..

Jonny touched on this and said its a footwork mechanics issue with his from leg.

I would overthink too with this disaster of a team js
My quick blame game:
35% special teams
25% O-line
15% Shanny
25% Lynch
lol

I think the good news is, virtually all our problems are fixable. We should have plenty of options to upgrade at DC and probably ST coach too.
We should have at least nine draft picks to restock the roster.
Kyle will have a chance to tweak his offense. People who say he's too stubborn to change don't watch film enough. He has changed some things, but I think he's still working towards the other adjustments he can make to improve the scheme and beat what defenses are doing now.
Purdy will have another year of experience in reading defenses and another off-season to work on technique.
Our players will also come back more rested and hungry due to no postseason run.
I'm actually more optimistic than most. There's hope for the future.. But we have to see what we do in the off-season.

And what about all his success? You know, 4 NFCC's and 2 SB appearance's? Top 3-5 offense in the league?

They had to patch together an entire d line from free agency. How did we get so far away from drafting and developing. At one point we had a pipeline of dudes and reclamation projects. Now it's just a cast of average to below average overpriced free agents. Floyd and Hargraves impacts have been minimal.
As far as the o line what more can be said. Been saying the same s**t for 3/4 years now. But they still have yet to solve the issues. They didn't even attempt to solve it this off season. But hey let's just keep drafting WR's that still can't beat man coverage. We have two legit quality lineman in Puni and TW.
On the field KS is numero uno to blame. Continues to not give a s**t about special teams and it shows. 2 consecutive bad hires for DC. And the offense is a total s**t show. Brock hasn't taken a step forward. I expected him to play better. Not on KS that he threw the ball 5 yards over Deebo's head last game. IT's a lot of blame to go around in terms of on the field play
They gotta prioritize the trenches over wr's and rb's. Shout out Kittle the only aging vet really earning his check this year.
This is where the Trey Lance trade hurt us, all those 1st round picks could have been dline, pass rush and oline. Team looks thin because it is

Good read OTC. Not going to put it into percentages, but for me the clear issues are.
ST - No explanation needed really. They're just bad. Part is coaching, part a lack of depth and injuries further eroding that depth, but it's poorly coached.
D - Sorenson is not the guy, again injuries haven't been kind, but we look like we're throwing out guys with instructions to "go win". No creativity, no disguises, the opposition pretty much know what they're up against, it's just a matter of whether or not they can exploit it.
O - Our OL, especially C is killing us. Needs a revamp or we'll have more of the same next year. Deebo's time is done imo. Not a good enough receiver, and the gadget plays don't work.
Scheme - Everything looks difficult at the moment, and the opposition seems to know what we're doing on both sides of the ball. Need to evolve, but not wipe the slate clean to the point where we're not utilising the talent we have properly.
Key off season moves
- New DC and ST coach. Get an experienced DC who has a proven system that fits the players we have.
- See what we can get for Deebo. I would take a 2nd and 5th even with losing 15mil in cap space as long as it doesn't prevent us from keeping Greenlaw.
- Revamp the OL. I know, I know, we say this every year and it doesn't happen.
- We need to repeat last year's draft success. Easier said than done, but if we can get younger and cheaper without a drop off then it will open our window.
Key outs
Deebo, Hufanga, Ward, Brendel, Banks, Hargraves it depends, can't get rid of everyone and just rely on draft picks to fill all holes.
Key needs in draft and FA
C, LG, CB, T, FS, DE/DT (dependent on other moves).
Must re-sign
Greenlaw. Keep all restricted FA.

Cliff Notes version for the ADHD or reading impaired individual:
1) Lynch is not getting held accountable enough as it's his fault for our incredibly poor personnel due to his awful decision to trade up for Lance and absolutely horrific 2022 & 2023 drafts, which netted next to zero quality depth, no quality special teams players, and only 2 starters (Purdy, Jayir Brown).
2) Kyle is fielding a competitive team in spite of this, with an average margin of loss of just 4.6 pts/game this year. Shanahan is not blameless, but he's near the bottom of the list of problems. There's evidence he's trying to adjust the offense, but indeed still has more work to do. His DC choices the past two years haven't worked, but we cannot ignore the lack of options being available as we played late in the postseason both times, so leeway is certainly deserved there.
3) Purdy needs to step up. Poor decisions/mental mistakes have cost us in 4/5 close losses this year. He's still not fully developed mechanically either, but the issues are fixable. Data suggests most QBs see huge drops in turnovers between year 4-6. Mentally, he needs to realize that if the team is struggling, he can help it more by protecting the ball than by taking chances. TBD if he can fix this going forward.
4) Schneider and Sorensen both deserve to be fired. Unlike Kyle, who is the only coach producing something in spite of poor and/or depleted personnel, Schneider's group is the worst in the NFL, and Sorensen's group folds in nearly every critical situation and often can't even get off the field in spots where they should have a huge edge. Saleh had no talent for awhile and tons of injuries and still got more out of his guys. If Schneider and Sorensen were quality, they would be able to do the same.
Do you have cliff notes for the cliff notes.

Excellent write up. I read it all. Definitely agree about Lynch. Thanks for the time that you put in to write this.
