Brock

Vegas has us still at 6th best odds to win the Super Bowl next year in Santa Clara! 😊
Sad part is any one of those guys goes down and we become instant pretenders. That's how fragile this dynasty framework is. Heavily reliant on the top players balling all season long. Lose one (Aiyuk), and the team begins to teeter. Lose one more, and now we're a 6-11 team again with the Kyle fans screaming "RUN IT BACK !"

No team would have survived to be 6-11 with the amount of starters missing and yet were a few drops and missed kicks away from winning the Div lol

They will want an epic 9th year rebuilt. If we fail again. Which is very likely.

Bumping this...
Why? Because I want to remind some in here what the expectations were heading into this season. Because the biggest critics of the coaching staff were the ones claiming this is a rebuild situation, who will likely act like this should've been a SB or bust season if the team doesn't win it all.

I have a funny feeling in my gut that we'll get all the way to the Super Bowl with a quarter of a roster being held together by super glue, barely lose, and then all the usual suspects will screech "I would rather go 0-17 10 years in a row than LOSE the Super Bowl in our OWN stadium!
BYE KYLE AND LYNCH!!!" for the next decade.

This has been a great season. It's too bad we can never seem to enjoy it without constantly having to wade through posts reliving past losses and/or constant comparisons to other teams/players/coaches. Nobody had us winning the division this year with a completely healthy team. Despite all the crap we are in position to get the #1 seed.
We could be in the middle of a magical season. But instead the "un-biased" fans have to constantly poo poo all over the team.

I fully believe that IF the Niners made it to the SB, They would win. It would really suck for Bosa and Warner, but I can see that scenario happening easier than just making the SB.

I believe we can do it, which is great because we are still just a season into the badly needed roster renovation and have a chance.
Whether it happens or not we are still in the middle of that roster renovation and will be that much more improved heading into next season.

What does it mean to retool and to rebuild?

Remove pieces on the roster that are ineffective or not working and adding in pieces that are effective or will work for the present and the future.
Looking at this season, the 49ers are off to a great start in the whole process. They may be ahead of schedule in some regards.

I wish we didn't restructure dbo, or give more money to Trent and CMC. But we thought we had one more run in us.
Do we blow it up or look to re-tool?
If Genus The Mod is bumping this thread, the creator's post also deserves the same treatment. I've never read anything more off-base than this. This is the Debbie Downer Doom Detachment at work.

I think the Aiyuk situation puts them ahead of schedule. Off loading that horrible contract will be a huge benefit.

It really would be if they can trade him.
They may end up needing to cut him with a post-June 1st designation, in which case we'll still have some dead cap space.

Retool to me is just different points on a continuum of change we go through every year. We always try to remove non-productive contracts. There are more non-productive contracts in some year, like at the end of 2024, than others. If they're managed correctly, there's really never a big turnover. In the next couple of years we're going to see a new headline RB, LT, and TE. A couple of years after that, we'll see new headline MLB and DE. Etc...
Rebuild to me is where we jettison even productive contracts because of drastic change in philosophical make up of the team. For example, trade Bosa because we're going to a 3-4D, trade Purdy because we want arm talent over agility.
I really don't see a rebuild until Shanahan and Lynch are replaced.
