Why is it that every time we are looking for a DC, the wide 9 keeps being the focal point? If Sorenson is fired I want a DC that is going to bring out the best in players that are here regardless of what scheme it is. I think Wilks would still be here if he was allowed to run what he wanted and not be forced fed with wide 9.

I'll admit I'm over the Wide-9 and wouldn't mind moving on from it.

So am I!!! It seems like if you don't have a Patrick Willis or Dre Greenlaw manning the middle, teams can just run on you without worry.

Ya.....from my understanding its dated and our personel not longer fits the scheme.

They don't have the personnel to play the Wide 9, gap stuffers and great LBs. maybe Greenlaw comes back , like old, and they draft 4 DL, lol
I really like what the Lions did last night and what the Vikings did when the 49ers played them. Changing up from man to zone. Lot's of disguises and jumping around. I know you still need the right players but lining up in the same formation over and over with wide gaps in the middle doesn't look viable now that teams are running more again. Without a big run stuffer and another active LB teams will continure to run on the Niners.

Maybe the 49ers should go the college route and grab one of the top defensive coordinators like Phil Parker from Iowa.
We fire anybody, yet?

I don't know him too well, but I wouldn't mind a fresh change from the college ranks. Whoever it is I hope its a good one if they go that route.
One name that I brought up last year before they hired Sorensen for DC, someone that I'm a fan of is Ryan Nielsen, currently defensive coordinator of Jacksonville. He didn't have a great year with the Jaguars but...its the Jaguars. He's one of the more creative coaches in the NFL when it comes to generating pressure on a quarterback and the ways he uses his players to produce pressure, combining blitzes, stunts, twists and throwing the kitchen sink at quarterbacks. I'd love to see him at least get an interview if Sorensen is let go.
Also Brant Boyer who has consistently been one of the special teams coaches in the NFL for a decade now. He's continually produced elite special teams performances despite being on garbage teams.

if he can be so creative, then how can you give him a pass cause it's the jaguars?

isn't that what we want though, a DC to elevate the players when we don't have the best players at every position?

i dont think Sorensen is bad, but if an upgrade is available, you'd have to look into.

imo, I don't think we move on from Sorensen yet. Especially with all the injuries

I'd say move him over to special teams for more exp. Kick out Brandon Staley from booth.

go outside box for a new coordinator on D
fresh eyes. Talent. I liked the coach from KC last year. But he prob to much for shanny to handle

Because no matter how good a playcaller is, they still need a baseline of talent to run their scheme.
