Schwartz would be my pick. He can scheme and adjust, something Sorensen has trouble with. He runs the wide nine, and our d line coach will probably stay. He allows Kyle to concentrate on the offense. He would make a huge difference, he knows what he is doing!
I like this!
it'd be good, but... he's not available. Still DC of the Browns. He also has expressed his desire to be a head coach as recently as this last off season.
Originally posted by 49AllTheTime:His desire to be a HC again is irrelevant there has to be mutual interest, zero evidence that he'd be in play for future HC positions.

but i'm responding to the ones who keep bringing him up if he was available. If we did sign him and it looks like we should get better on D, no doubt there would be interviews for HC in 2026. leaving us with no DC again. The juice aint worth the squeeze is what i'm saying

Keeping Sorensen absolutely guarantees a DC search in 26.

Isn't Dennis Allen blitz heavy though? Not sure that jives with Shanahan?
Not as much as he did early on in his career. He blitzed less on average than Wilks did with the 49ers last year. The more I think about him, the more he makes sense. He's not getting hired away for a HC job anytime soon, or likely ever again. He's an experienced DC that like Fangio and Spagnuolo has found his groove, has a consistent approach and got good results most of his time with the Saints. If you bring him in you potentially have a DC locked in for years to come.
As a bonus, his familiarity with Darren Rizzi might even help entice him to come onboard as special teams coordinator.
Also Allen had Brady's number constantly.

Dennis Allen put forth another defensive masterpiece against Tampa Bay in Sunday Night's 9-0 shutout.
Something about the way the Saints play defense causes Tom Brady fits. Today, we dig in to find out what it is, how it's done, and why it works.https://t.co/g2LyYu0UTG

Would really love to get a long term DC in Allen & a great special teams guy in Rizzi

How about Antonio Pierce. Seems like players responded to his coaching style. I know the defense gave 💯 for him. The overall team talent just wasn't there.

If they're replacing Sorensen after a year then I want to see a veteran playcaller brought in, not another first timer.
