He might, and it would be stupid. At least it sounds like the Jags are getting ready to select the wrong guy to be their next HC lol.

What makes Coen the wrong guy for Jags?

TB coach is the favorite for the Jacksonville job, Raiders seem to be moving on to Carroll and reports from Dallas are that the favorite is..Brian Schottenheimer.

Hope Saleh signs here, he could still go elsewhere as DC.

I don't see that happening. It's DC here or Head Coach elsewhere.

From what we know (and we don't know everything) it does seem they put all their eggs in the Saleh basket. If that doesn't work out for whatever reason, it seems the fallback is Staley. Which is the thought that bothers me. If we knew they have been interviewing others I don't think the posts here would be anything like what we have seen. So I am in wait and see mode, but skeptical about how this has gone. (I am including special teams here)

It's insane that Staley is even in the mix. Shanahan interviewed this dude last year and decided he preferred to roll with Sorensen...then they have Staley in the building for a year, and he clearly hasn't made a great impression considering they're still in the market for a DC.

it would be a catastrophic failure if Staley ends up being the DC in so many ways. We haven't even touched on what it would mean for the personnel, scheme and assistant coaches. This is the type of s**t that definitely could get Shanny fired.

Staley was helping with the Defense last year.

Look I don't want Staley but at least if he was made DC I'd definitely wouldn't jump to any conclusions. Besides, it was Sornsen who called the plays last season not Staley. And one reason I don't think Staley will be the DC and you people are overreacting. Staley doesn't use the Wide 9 in his defense and that would mean moving on from Kyle Shanahan's buddy Kris Kocurek, I doubt Shanahan wants to do that.

I hope you're right. What bothers me is Kyle has only interviewed three candidates one in house in Staley the other being Saleh and the other Townsend (Rooney Rule?)
I would have thought with such a bad showing on defense last year he would have beat the bushes a little better than three people.
Hey and I generally back Kyle on what he does.

It was a somewhat safe but risky to go all in on Saleh. Maybe he had people in his back pocket after Saleh not named Brandon Staley, but we will never know if Saleh gets the job.

If they did miss out on Saleh then I'd like to see them give the Chiefs LB coach Brendan Daly a look at least. He's worked under Spagnuolo, Belichick and Leslie Frazier while having experience coaching DL and LBs.

Almost 50 and never been a coordinator at any level... Not sure that is the type of coach Kyle is looking for.

He has been around good defensive minds, so it's worth the interview.

It's the same for me, but I'm not a fan of the way this DC search looks, at least publicly. This period of no news and constant speculation is rough. Can we at least hire Chris Tabor for Special Teams Coordinator so we have something to distract us from the other search?

Same. It also makes me think there isn't a public favorite for the ST job. Unless Saleh's guy from the Jets is coming with him.

I think we can all agree on that.

Kyle getting fired Is a real possibility too If he doesn't hire the right DC + ST this time around.

Not necessarily he has still interviewed with Vegas and Dallas but have heard less on them than Jags. He could also go DC somewhere else but I would think he would come back over that but who really knows. I would surely hope 9ers and him have a handshake agreement on DC if he doesn't get a head job
