wow, that would be an under the radar HC. so this means saleh is ours? looks like bears are going in on Allen.

Weren't there reports that Saleh wanted to work close to home in his next job? There's no guarantee this dude takes the Niners' job even if there no other openings available.

I think we can all agree on that.

Kyle getting fired Is a real possibility too If he doesn't hire the right DC + ST this time around.

This. They had the SB excuse last year. What's their excuse if they miss out on Saleh?

i haven't followed it a ton but from what i did see, there is a we'll make you highest paid coordinator style offer. that would be hard to turn down. strong offer. i still hope we move on dennis allen but i don't see us doing that.

Pretty sure Allen is going with Johnson to Chicago

If that was the case Saleh would be out of the running for the DC job by now.

Kyle is a huge part of how Saleh got a head coaching job in the first place - making Saleh his DC - sticking with him after a rough first year or two etc.

These guys are super tight.

Saleh isn't going to string Kyle along

I don't buy that for a second.

From what we know (and we don't know everything) it does seem they put all their eggs in the Saleh basket. If that doesn't work out for whatever reason, it seems the fallback is Staley. Which is the thought that bothers me. If we knew they have been interviewing others I don't think the posts here would be anything like what we have seen. So I am in wait and see mode, but skeptical about how this has gone. (I am including special teams here)

It's insane that Staley is even in the mix. Shanahan interviewed this dude last year and decided he preferred to roll with Sorensen...then they have Staley in the building for a year, and he clearly hasn't made a great impression considering they're still in the market for a DC.

it would be a catastrophic failure if Staley ends up being the DC in so many ways. We haven't even touched on what it would mean for the personnel, scheme and assistant coaches. This is the type of s**t that definitely could get Shanny fired.

It's a head scratcher for sure. One day at a time

I feel like the 49ers lack of urgency in filling that position speaks volumes. Just my opinion but I feel like there is already a handshake deal in place there unless he gets a head coaching job. Otherwise what would be the point in them sitting on their hands atm?

Maybe he still has his house in Almaden Valley (San Jose). I saw him and his kids twice at our local Best Buy. The first time I was shocked how big he is and jacked. The dude was huge. I'm up to local sightings again and with a huge contract he can buy the good tvs now

Saleh would definitely be a best buy, hurry up and sign

I dont think its that catastrophic.

People underestimate how unattractive this DC job is for anyone who isn't in Kyles ring of trust. A lot of fans think 49ers status of a prestigious franchise should have experienced DCs running this way when it's the other way around.

Harbaugh with Fangio or McVay with Wade Philips delegated all defensive stuff to those DCs. Kyle doesn't. Kyle dictates what style of defense the coordinator plays.

So why would an experienced "outsider" DC go for a job on a team where he has to

1) deal with lacking depth and little proven talent behind Bosa and Warner (provided Greenlaw leaves)
2) work for HC that would dictate how the defense should play
3) work for HC who would alter how and from where you call plays
4) work for HC whose last "outside" coach bent over for HC and did 2) and 3) and still got kicked out after a SB loss, demonstratively ?
5) deal with tons of expectations and pressure to win

Yeah, if I'm an "outsider" DC who has NFL experience and a current job, not only do I not want this job, I actively stay away from it...

This. Outside of a HC job offer, Saleh will be DC.
Our options:

DC - Saleh, Staley, Townsend, Eberflus

STC - Tabor, Banjo, Modkins, Boyer (assumed)

Get Saleh & Tabor on board, and call it a coaching staff that's ready to roll for the new season! As a fan, I'd be pumped.

I think it's all but done that Saleh is the guy. He's gonna be one of the highest paid DCs in football. The lions are reportedly gonna elevate their LBer coach once Glenn is hired. That's the only opening that would be near his family.
Its Saleh or bust.
