I dont think its that catastrophic.
People underestimate how unattractive this DC job is for anyone who isn't in Kyles ring of trust. A lot of fans think 49ers status of a prestigious franchise should have experienced DCs running this way when it's the other way around.
Harbaugh with Fangio or McVay with Wade Philips delegated all defensive stuff to those DCs. Kyle doesn't. Kyle dictates what style of defense the coordinator plays.
So why would an experienced "outsider" DC go for a job on a team where he has to
1) deal with lacking depth and little proven talent behind Bosa and Warner (provided Greenlaw leaves)
2) work for HC that would dictate how the defense should play
3) work for HC who would alter how and from where you call plays
4) work for HC whose last "outside" coach bent over for HC and did 2) and 3) and still got kicked out after a SB loss, demonstratively ?
5) deal with tons of expectations and pressure to win
Yeah, if I'm an "outsider" DC who has NFL experience and a current job, not only do I not want this job, I actively stay away from it...
