Why would the browns fire Schwartz. I don't understand why folks are tossing out DC candidates that are currently employed?

Gus is a big f**k no. His scheme is outdated. I'm down on Lou. They invested a ton on that D over the years. Bengals when 3-4 when scoring 33+ pts this yr. That D was atrocious.

For me it's Allen, Saleh, Ulbrich as of now.

Would be an absolute slam dunk honestly. Get a proven DC that runs a similar sort of scheme, that's already been HC twice and isn't going anywhere for a long time along with a top tier special teams coach.

Schwartz is a pipe dream, as is Saleh. I don't see either as possibilities. I really like the idea of Allen because he will force a little change from the same system we've had for years. He will never be a head coach again and he still has plenty of years to be a DC

I can see Saleh by for more than Jim. He's available and obviously there's a relationship. No way he gets a HC gig this off season. So it's either a DC somewhere or not coaching maybe the DET DC job opens up. I don't see GB firing their DC (he's bros with Matt).

I think if you get one of Allen or Rizzi first it would help land both guys. I'm down for that. Folks hate the Ulbrich idea, imo I think that's the most likely.

I think it is a 90% chance its Ulbrich, which I am ok with. I don't see Saleh because if he wants to be a head coach again I think he will want to prove that he can be a great DC somewhere else other than the 49ers again.
I don't want Ulbrich at all tbh.

Allen is intriguing. Saleh is common sense. I am sure there are others they are considering.

I want a coach who doesn't care about being scheme specific, but can look at our defense and imagine the best way to get the most out of them etc.

What is Allen's track record anyways? I keep seeing you guys bring up his name.

The Saints had their best four year run defensively under him in the past 20+ years. Came in and took over a defense that had been a complete disaster under Rob Ryan and righted the ship, showed real improvement while not exactly having a loaded defense talent-wise. They had a streak of over 50 games of not allowing a hundred yard rusher as well

The only thing I'll add is they went with someone like Allen then they'd really need to upgrade to add at least one true free safety.

What's interesting is that—despite the valid points you raise—I don't think anyone thought of the Saints as having a dominant defense during his tenure. It's puzzling. Perhaps it's because they were a middle of the road team for so long.
Ya I think they need to either hire Saleh or if not they need to step away from the wide-9 and hire someone like Allen who at least still runs a 4-3 it would just be ran differently.

He will never get another HC gig IMO.

The first half of his career was rather unremarkable, but he did manage three top 5-10 years with the Saints.

Dennis Allen was on the Bounty Gate coaching staff

That is the only potential red flag I can think of...his HC performances are a plus b/c he can stay as a permanent DC
I want to hire a DC because he's the best coach and fit for the team, not who best fits with Kocurek. That's happened twice now and failed.
Am I the only one who doesn't understand the Schwartz infatuation? Are we all just going to ignore that the Browns' defense sucked this year despite having a top-tier franchise edge rusher?

Just because the Browns beat us by an easy chip-shot missed field goal last year doesn't mean he's some magical genius Shanahan kryptonite that will win us a SB lol

This fanbase loves living in the season so much that it insists we need to dump Purdy for Darnold. But apparently not enough to acknowledge that the Browns' defense dropped off hard this year.
Question, why was Gus fired?

Its not just last year, Gym Shorts has always given Kyle trouble. That said there is zero indication that he and Cleveland will part ways.

I like the Allen idea, and it looks like he's a big 4-3 over guy who prioritizes run defense. looks like it's be a smoother transition than some of the other guys
