I was envious while watching the way the Texans were overwhelming the Chargers O line yesterday. It reminded me of the days when the Niners put constant pressure on opposing teams.

Days like these...

That was a different roster. And IIRC, Saleh was a good DC not necessarily because of his game planning before the game, but rather because his ability to adjust as the game went on. How many years during the Saleh / Ryan's era would we get battered in the first half, but the fans wouldn't panic because we knew second half adjustments were coming.

Just not sure we have the players or discipline to execute like that anymore. And I think one thing we can acknowledge is this team has speed on defense. We should be more aggressive with the play calling. More blitz packages. More pre-snap looks to keep the offense off keel. Not convinced Saleh brings that to the table with the current iteration of this defense…

Have you considered why the Ravens dumped him or why he had to return to coaching in college?

Tbh, i don't want to hire like Saleh.
Just give me someone who can establish at least a solid defense with little talent. I don't see Saleh to be this guy.

Why will the 49ers have little talent when the 49ers will have $60 mil in cap space? Not to mention the #11 pick in the draft.
1) most of the space will be routed to Purdy.
2) most defenses are solid without having a second top notch pass rusher
3) if we can draft an ot at #11, we have to get him instead of a pass rusher

He was on that disastrous NY staff a year ago, and was openly fighting with Dabol..... just a bad look imo.

We need a more aggressive approach on defense. More blitzing, please.

Well that's not Saleh

We don't have the safeties to blitz constantly.

1. Purdy will probably count less than $20 mil on the cap, which leaves more than $40 mil left.

2. i'm not talking about a pass rusher, I'm talking about someone who can do both at DT.

3. Shanahan and Forester won't draft an OT right now, bank on it. McKivitz has improved and Trent Williams should be back healthy. And if Trent doesn't come back, I don't see them depending on a rookie to watch the blindside.
I have a feeling Staley will be the next DC

There's tradeoffs to everything. I've seen people argue that they don't have the personnel to be successful with Saleh right now. They're going to need to add personnel no matter who the DC is and if you bring in someone that is more blitz happy then you'd better he upgrading the safeties and CBs along with upgrading the interior DL no matter what.

I also don't want a DC that will be here for 1 or 2 years then move onto a HC gig. But it's not my decision so I will juts wait and see. I've heard a name off of Spags defensive staff,
  • Dave Merritt: A long-time assistant to Spagnuolo, Merritt is the current defensive backs coach for the Chiefs. The two worked together during the Giants' championship season in 2007.
