If that did open up he would pick GB over 9ers to be with his best friend.

That would be a real dick move it LaFleur did that. Jeff Hafley was a pretty damn good DC this yr given the injuries they had.

I can't imagine he would do that to Jeff and his family after one yr of being the guy in GB.

Dennis Allen is a hot name in this thread all the sudden but… idk if he'd be that good. Saints were never known for their defense, and their defense was really bad in 2015-2018 while he was DC. Sure they were decent or very good in 2019-2021, but then this last season they fell off a cliff.

Just be careful what you wish for. His resume is basically 3-4 pretty good years in 2019-2022 surrounded by bleh.

He's a hot name but the job is going to Saleh, it's no secret. After Saleh is done with his tour of head coaching interviews, he'll be back in San Francisco. There's a ton of time to get him in the building.

LaFleur is not going to get rid of Jeff Hafley, he's done a good job with that defense. And yes, Saleh would choose to stay in GB rather than go back to SF. But there's no opening in GB and I doubt he'll want to become a DC with someone he doesn't know.

He will be getting HC looks soon I doubt they would move on from him.

We'd basically be hoping he's our Spags. Except at least Spags had 18-1 on his resume (even if it was over a decade old). Allen's resume includes… multiple historic playoff wins for the Vikings

You said it yourself.

Saints were never known for their defense.

Yet he gave them nearly all their best seasons defensively over the past 20 years. From 2020 to 2023 they were a top 10 scoring defense.

And it's not like he walked into a great situation. He took over a defense that had been atrocious under Rob Ryan and he got things turned around even while they were losing guys like Trey Hendrickson and Alex Anzalone due to their front office salary cap misadventures.

I don't care who the coaches are if you cant stop the run. We were so bad this year.

Its tough to gauge because Kyle hit home runs with Saleh and Ryans, but duds with Wilkes and Sorenson.

When you are hiring after all the other guys have taken jobs it makes it difficult. Got to nail the choice when everyone is available.
Think I'd prefer Aleen over Ulbrich but doesn't look like we have any interest in Allen. Hope we don't have all our eggs in 2 baskets.

Yup that's why Saleh is everyone's choice, and it would be great but the problem I see with Saleh is that it would only be a one year deal because he will probably get another HC opportunity the following year and then we'll be here again talking about hiring yet another DC. If it is Saleh is there someone in-house that can be groomed to take over like Ryans was?
From the Dallas staff, along with Fassel, I'd also take Al Harris who has had a ton of success developing defensive backs, both in KC and Dallas.

I wouldn't mind this hire. Always had his defense playing hard.

If this is true I would be ecstatic, he is one of my top choices

Stopping the run is personnel issue more than anything. Backup DL all over the place. Warner on one leg and dog s**t next to him all yr.

we need something new, scheme wise to get the D excited again.. Old scheme would just have our guys just go through the motions in camp

That's my train of thought on hiring Saleh aswell ideally they'd bring in Ulbrich aswell as a placeholder.

I hear you. I want them to be able to change it up week to week, or in game as needed.

Go get John Fassel as ST coach, right now!

Stated this elsewhere. I don't expect we Will however. It will be like when we passed on Rich Bisaccia for Schneider, and it's not a knock on him because he was good in Seattle. But if a better option is available, take it.
