I really, really don't like Staley. I'm sorry I'm sure he's smart but he's been living off that 2020 COVID season. Everything the guy has touched since has turned to ****. Ever since the media worshipped him as a super genius for saying "you need a good running game to balance your passing game!" in a press conference, I've had an irrational disdain for the guy.

Honestly I just want him gone altogether. I don't care about that 2020 season.

I wonder about these 2 things. why have they not interviewed Ulbrich yet? Seems odd considering they went after him last off season. Also, I wonder why no team has interviewed Staley yet for their DC position. Maybe he has been interviewed and I don't know, but you'd think other teams would at least request an interview with Staley.

I trust the FO to get this right though, it's not too much to say that everyone's job depends on getting this turned around. They can't afford to make another mistake hire at DC for a 3rd straight year. So I think they are doing the work.

Only the 49ers have interviewed him. I believe it was their first DC interview. I don't think the 49ers are interested in Ulbrich or Allen, or they would have set interviews with them already. Since Staley hasn't been offered the job and has been interviewed, he is not their first choice, but possibly second behind Saleh (unless they are waiting for someone still in the playoffs to interview).

This could be BS, but if true that would be one less team to worry about for DC.

Who have 49ers interviewed for DC? Besides Saleh and Staley? Yes, Deshea Townsend. But I believe that was to satisfy the Rooney rule. other than that it is Saleh and Staley from what I know. They have interviewed a boat load more guys for ST and OC than they have DC. Something is up.

Rooney Rule would have been already satisfied interviewing Saleh
we interviewed Deshae Townsend for DC also.. never mind, already noted

Al Golden is a really interesting choice for DC.

I shoulda been more clear. I know SF has interviewed him. I'm wondering why nobody else has. Surely if Staley was a desirable commodity, another team would have at least requested an interview. It says something about the guy that he's just sitting there in no man's land.

That was before. He has the cooties now. I've never seen a team quit on a HC the way the chargers did on him.

Spagnuolo with the Rams, who then went on to suck as DC with New Orleans and struggling back in New York before finding his way to KC.

Staley's background is in Fangio's scheme with primarily odd fronts so I don't expect him to stick around with the 49ers but he'll be a DC somewhere again and will probably do decently.

COOTIES I tell ya. COOTIES. I saw that Chargers - Raiders game live. I would burn my house down if Staley walked in it hahaha.

Jokes aside, what are the odds he's another Spags? Exactly.

I'm calling familiarity. He was their linebackers coach for two seasons.

get a Chris Jones type of guy and we got the new Stales
I don't think Salah is going to get hired as HC. I think owners in 2024 want offensive minded guys. That's just the way it is now. More times than not, defensive minded HCs fail. Just my hotness take

I don't know about that. Andy Reid(OC), McVay(OC) and Sirianni(OC)are the only ones out of the 8 left as "offensive" guys. Ryans (DC), McDermott(DC), Harbaugh(ST), Campbell(TE coach), Quinn(DC) were not offensive minded. Keep in mind Bill Belichek was defensive minded.

What does the final 8 have to do with it?

You can go back to the SBs in recent history if you want to go to the extreme of only looking at the cream of the crop.

Belichick is about the only defensive minded HC to make it there in the last few years.

Yes, I agree. The point is who the coach is. Although going with an offensive minded coach over a defensive minded statistically is better, you have to look at the individual coach themselves.
