We hate Staley cus why, now?
I'm just trying to sort the mythology out.
As head coach of the Chargers he lost a playoff game after going up 27-0.
Then the following season he let the raiders drop 63 points on him and got fired.
That's some headline D fails. But apparently Renaldo Hill was the Chargers actual DC for that- where's he at these days….
Conversely, as DC of the Rams in 2020, his team ranked #1, with some HOF caliber talent, of course but still.
The takeaway is don't hire Staley as a head coach.
But as DC he has exhibited some competency.
I'm willing to be challenged on this if someone can bring in facts.
The negatives:
1) He inherited a Wade Phillips defense, with most likely the same assistant coaches
2) His "defense" never translated over to the Charger
3) What exactly has he done this past year on the 49ers staff
The positives:
1) The Rams defense did excellent that one year he was DC
2) He has worked under Vic Fangio
My main concern are negative points 2) and 3)
