Bingo he could be looked at as a DC candidate for the guy who actually gets the HC gig…and yes the Rooney Rule.

It's due diligence and also more experience for Saleh. Dude has ONE more shot to be a HC. He absolutely has no reason to say no I don't want to take the interview. He would be dumb not too.

He has one more shot at HC if he takes that role now and gets fired. His best option currently is to take a DC job and build his rep.

But yes.....Saleh will jump at the chance because he gains more experience by just visiting the facility/meeting the brass.

Where's this rule where you guys are saying he only has one more shot at HC? Do you guys really think he would turn down being a HC opportunity if offered and is just going through the motions to come back and be a DC?
I find it hard to believe Kyle doesn't have backup options. Totally understand going all in on Saleh but seriously doubt they don't have other options

Besides the staffs already on the team, they have only interviewed 2 Lion staffers for the DC position IIRC.

Staley and Soreness could very well up being our DC and ST coaches heading Into a new season.

I'll be shocked if that happens

I mean who gets 3 chances at being a HC in the NFL? We're saying ultimately if he ever wants to be a HC again he's got one more chance to make it work.

I don't know, NY - he was there prior to coming here. Article says they're very fond of him.

Keep crossing your fingers that he takes it 🫰

You're getting mad at the wrong guy, my friend.

The question that had nothing to do with your original response?

The question that proves that guys take interviews knowing the chance that they get hired is slim. So ya answer the question, you think he took that interview thinking he's was gonna be our OC?

today it came out that Ben Johnson knew he wasn't getting the Pats job but did the interview anyway….

If it happens whatever but like I said, can someone name me a first time HC who had a .350 record zero playoff appearances and got hired that offseason? I can't think of a single person.

Ya, but don't know until you know. I don't think it happens, either.

There is no rule....but using common sense and looking at the history of the NFL. I believe if Saleh goes right back into a HC position, flames out in 2/3 years....it's a wrap. He'll potentially extend his chances if he goes back to DC now and gathers some cred along the way....of course it's better if he took over a bad D and turned it around, but that wouldn't be the case in SF.

On the other side, whether or not he'd turn down a HC position is really up to him and what he wants. If he truly wants to run a team, and his only opportunity is a franchise that he gets bad vibes from....he may turn that down. Bill Cowher has been fairly open in regarding up and coming coaches and warning them about taking the job with the Oakland Raiders when Al Davis was on his last breaths. It could very well be a death sentence.
