In what world is Staley proven?

#1 overall defense in yards and points. He was the best DC McVay has had.
One successful year doesn't equate to proven.

How were those Charger defenses under his watch?

Kinda different when you're overseeing the team as opposed to one side of the team.

A lot of good coordinators out there don't make good HC's but are damn good coordinators. See Josh McDaniels, Steve Spags, Vic Fangio, Adam Gase and so on.

How is guiding the #1 overall defense not proven? Sure its not much of a track record but it's proven results.
It's no track record whatsoever,in order to be proven he would need to produce quality defenses on a consistent basis like Spags & Vic have.

So what would you call it then a fluke? Obviously Chargers thought he was proven when they gave him a head coaching opportunity.
Maybe, and obviously the Chargers were wrong.

Regardless if they were right or wrong, that was a NFL organization that gave him his head coaching break.
And the proves what exactly? Teams make bad hires all the time and if he's such a proven commodity why didn't Kyle hire over Sorensen?

Again an NFL team, owner and GM thought Staley was proven enough to coach their team. You act like they went out and hired some position coach.

And what you don't know why Sorensen was hired over Staley? For one it was for continuity, two, hiring Staley would've been a whole new makeover in scheme.
And you act like him being hired based off of one year somehow validates him as a pretty decent to good DC it doesn't we have no idea if he can do the job on a consistent basis.

how anyone can defend or want Staley is beyond me.

I don't want Staley, but he is a pretty decent to good coordinator.
How can you say he's even decent based off of one successful year?

Was it successful or not?
That doesn't answer my question.

But I'll answer yours yes he had one successful year as a DC but I'll say it again that doesn't equate to him being a decent DC we have no way of knowing based off of one year.

Absolutely it answers your question. It was successful, which in the eyes was proven enough to get an head coaching job.

Lol at the rules you're going by over what an NFL team says.

If you believe that through out the course of NFL history that there's never been an unqualified coordinator hired to a HC position I don't know what to tell you.
