How many HC job's are out there and how many candidates does Saleh have to beat out?
Raiders
Jets - not getting this one of course
Bears
Jaguars
Saints
Ben Johnson
Aaron Glenn
Robert Saleh
Joe Brady
Kliff Kingsbury
Todd Monken
Bobby Slowik
Honestly, I'd put Kingsbury and Ben Johnson as the top candidates and Robert Saleh #3. Damn, he just might get a head coaching job, please bring in Dennis Allen.

This was a couple of questions asked to Shanahan in December:
Q: What was assistant head coach/defense Brandon Staley's role this season? How has that developed and have you been happy with what he's added?
SHANAHAN: "Yeah, I think Brandon's done a real good job. He helps us out in all types of areas, works with the nickels probably the most. Real good at helping [defensive coordinator] Nick [Sorensen] with the game plan and stuff like that. Does our ball meeting."
Q: Has he helped develop elements of the defense or has it still been mostly the stuff that you've been doing?
SHANAHAN: "I think we have different wrinkles and stuff each year. I wouldn't say that's just Nick. That's stuff we do as a group, but Nick's been a part of that group."
---??------------
To me is this very concerning.

I feel like it's either Jaguars or nothing for Saleh as far as HC goes.

And Jaguars beat reporters are saying that Ben Johnson and Liam Cohen are the two favorites for that job. With Detroit knocked out, we might see some quick resolution for some of these jobs.

Not sure if Jerry has a favorite there, but Mike McCarthy I heard is being interviewed by the Bears.

Shoot forgot about them. That could also be a team for Saleh. I think everyone is waiting to see who won the Ben Johnson sweepstakes. Once he's hired, teams will go to their plan B and the dominoes will start to fall.

I would definitely not rule out Staley as a strong candidate for the job if Saleh falls through.
Last offseason I do think Ulbrich was Shanahan's #1 choice at the time but this is my speculation reading the tea leaves but I do believe that Shanahan would've preferred Staley to be DC over Sorensen. I think the only reason he didn't make that move was after struggling with an outsider in Wilks that previous season he didn't want to bring another guy unfamiliar with the system and players in Staley so he went with the safe pick in Sorensen because Kyle could count on Sorensen to run the defense exactly as Kyle wants it. But I think that's why Shanahan gave Staley the position on the staff that he did because he could have input over the game planning and having Staley in that spot gives him time to learn the players and learn how Kyle wants things done.
Now maybe his opinion on Staley has soured a bit after how this season went but I still think Staley is a serious contender for the job if Saleh doesn't end up with the job.

......If we end up with Staley and Sorensen as our "new" coordinators many of you will end up blocking me because that is a travesty lol unthinkable for me.

If Staley was the guy, who not just make him the DC already?

It's going to be Saleh.

Pete Carroll as well interviewed with the Bears, so add him to the list. Wouldn't be surprised to see him coaching again soon.
