Yep! Unfortunately for some fans that's what they consider a success.
Not me.
If the 49ers have only had 5 successful seasons since 1946 it wouldn't be worth watching their games. So, in my mind, it can't be 100% about winning the SB every day. Oh, it certainly needs to be the goal, and it's the top measure of success. But it's not the only measure of success, and to say it is makes it pointless to ever watch a single game, IMO. That means that you have to sit on your hands and hate winning in Week 1 because it wasn't winning the SB. That means that you have to not care about Rice setting records because he was a loser that played more season without winning a SB than seasons he did. That means all kinds of stupid things like this.
So, yes, I will consider regular season wins successes. I will consider winning playoff games successes. I will consider winning the Conference twice in the last five seasons an enjoyable degree of success. They are not THE success and that hurts that they didn't get there, but I enjoyed those wins and I enjoyed watching the players who performed well in them.
If you can't enjoy that then I recommend to stop watching altogether. Why watch if it's not enjoyable unless they win a SB? Far better to ignore the team until they appear in the SB, and then watch just the SB to either celebrate or not.
I only watch when I think it'll be entertaining. I didn't watch the last two games because I didn't figure they'd be entertaining due to the current state of the team, with so many entertaining players out/playing poorly. I've enjoyed some losses in other seasons more than some wins this season just because the team vibe was better. You shouldn't feel obligated to watch is my point. Watch when you enjoy it. So if that's only when they win the SB, maybe don't watch otherwise.
