Again, same premise. If Brock plays hardball and demands a 60+ million contract, is unwilling to finish out his current contract, then you have an option B stop gap until we find our long term solution.
yes, the team is committed to Brock. At least Shanahan, the most talented QB evaluator that ever existed, is. But we've seen contract talk fall apart with this team before. And if Brock and his agent start pushing, trade his ass and pick up a temporary fit like Darnold or Cousins and start looking for the next franchise QB…
Kirk is not an option B. He's not an option at all. His starting days are over.
He should absolutely be an option B. "His starting days are over" was a comment we heard when talks of Brady over Jimmy were rumored, and look how that backfired on us. Again, we can agree that Kirk Cousins is not the long term solution. He's just a cheaper alternative to Brock while we continue our search for a true franchise quarterback. Clearly you're starting to hear name like Darnold and Cousins being swirled around the 49ers because a lot of pundits are not convinced Purdy is worth the 60 million dollar contract that some fans think he's worth. We made the mistake of overpaying a semi-dependable QB in the past and it didn't exactly work out. So why make the same mistake, especially if Brock has no plans on taking a discount or if he doesn't agree to finish out his current contract.
Cousins would cost about 27m next year.
Darnold closer to 35-40m.
Both cheaper option than Purdy.
All 3 options likely stop gaps while we search for an elite quarterback…
Brandon Allen is also a cheaper option than Purdy. But he sucks so who cares. Same as Cousins. Darnold will never make it to FA
