"Purdy sucks, no way should the 49ers pay him big money"

"The 49ers should trade Purdy for a 1st and 2nd round pick!"

Pick a lane folks.
This comparison is dumb. I will say that maybe we are witnessing Brock bang his head against his ceiling and is not smashing through. He had so many chances this season to lead a 4th quarter comeback or game winning drive and failed. Brock without Trent, CMC, Aiyuk and an aging Deebo just cannot get it done. Brady got it done with trash cans some of his seasons. Brock also is not good in inclement weather. That's just kind of a fact now.

What you see is what you get. It's not bad, but not good either anymore. I don't think he'll magically play better and become elite after we pay him. That is what I expect with anything above 40 mil a year, eliteness. Contracts and the market have become crazy.

But it's a Brock Purdy vs Sam Darnold thread. Not Brock Purdy vs Tom Brady thread.

We had a terrible off season along with untimely contract negotiations that didn't go on our teams favor. Factor in key players family issues and injuries…Not our season this year.
If you give Brock a full season with a healthy team I think we will be begging the front office to give him a max contract.
I always liked Darnold and but seems to always be around a team that underachieved when he is in the lead position, so was he part of the reason? Darnold clearly stated he learned so much from Brock on how to study film and practice.
For me I choose Brock since he is 49ers grown and will only get better. Veteran all pros and hall of famers already deemed young Brock the future leader of this team as he grows in his position.
The best route for the 49ers is get the contract done behind the scenes without the sports public eye then announce the 49ers leader has been signed. This will be a great start for the upcoming season.
Any back and forth negotiations publicly will give these pundits ammunition to say 49ers don't really believe Brock, that would just annoy me!!!
I don't see Darnold as the answer. He and Brock have different traits but both also have their deficiencies.

What does any of that have to do with Brock sailing balls 10 yards over the head of receivers 2 yards away? Are CMC and Aiyuk 10 yards tall?

Brock played worse when it wasn't raining against the Rams than when it was. It was the 4th quarter when he was horrible, and it wasn't raining anymore.

Also, Matt Stafford was worse in the rain than Brock. Stafford did absolutely nothing in this game, and people somehow ignore that. The only way the Rams were able to move the ball was with little screens and easy underneath stuff schemed up by Sean McVay. Kyle Shanahan couldn't do the same, in part because Deebo Samuel is now a non-factor with the ball in his hands.

Your math ain't mathing dude.

And if Justin Jefferson isn't coming with Darnold then I'm not interested.

His math never maths. And by math I mean opinions.

I would rather get gambling tips from Phil Mickelson than roll with Sam Darnold.
Thread should be dead. One hit wonder.
Purdy would be doing even better than Darnold on the 2024 Vikings, IMO.

seriously, sam darnold has been in the league how long now lol
Instead of talking about how Darnold is doing better on the Vikings than he did playing for the genius Kyle, fans are talking about how Darnold is now somehow better than Brock.

That's because it wouldn't make any sense.
A look at what non-rookie QBs around the league are getting this year should help with some of the guesses/calculations as to Purdy's value.

from low to high

- $10M/yr - Brissett, Tyrod Taylor, Mariota

10-20 - Minshew, Darnold (1-year prove-it deal)

20-30 - Geno Smith, yep, he's the only starter in that range

30-40 - Mayfield, Carr, Aaron Rodgers (did anyone think there were a lot more?)

40-50 - Stafford, Allen, Mahomes (all on restricted deals), Cousins, Watson, Murray, (the true comparison here would be with Cousins, Watson, and Murray. I would argue Purdy is better than any of those three.

50+ - Hurts, Jackson, Herbert, Goff, Tua, Lawrence, Love, Burrow, Dak,

So, for those arguing for a trade, who do you want from this list to replace him? Give your reasons.

If you want to extend him, what is the comp that you would use to justify the number ($$$)?
