Cutting Juice certainly points to it. Kid isn't much of a receiver and recognized for his blocking.

He was TE #3 on a horrific Jags team, how good can he be?

He also had 3 head coaches and multiple OCs under the Baalke regime. It's an underrated deterrent for player development - he now gets some stability wi the 49ers.

I don't love the value of the contract, but it finally gives us stability after we have had patch work signings for our blocking TE role. And given Juice's departure, maybe Farrell will player a bigger role than expected.

Great post

I see it as 3 years 11 mil guaranteed. That comes to around 3.5ish mil per year which is actually under the value of a TE 2 which is maybe around 4.5 mil? Thats my spin on it to make me sleep better lol...

Great post

Meh, lots of cash for a blocking TE.
I had draftee Tyler warren taking Juice's spot if we were to draft TW. But looks like LF will take care of that

That's the lowest of the low - he'll likely have incentives like snaps played %, receiving milestones, games played, workout bonuses, etc. I don't know what the average full % realization is for NFL contracts with base + guaranteed + performance incentives, but I think a safe assumption is base + guaranteed + 50% of incentives realized.

Using that model, he'd be closer to $16M over 3 years. Which is $5.3M per year - closely aligned to what Juice was projected to make this season before he got released.

Kyle must like his potential a lot and see him as a valuable piece in his new offense. It is a lot of money for a completely unproven player. At the end of the day I suppose Kyle and John don't think we are in a rebuilding mode but rather pay this guy than Juice.

Kyle no longer involved in personnel matters, Jed has him locked in a room creating plays for 8 hours each day and then security walks him to his car. He can no longer make friends with players, he was heard screaming "I love Joey Bosa" while crying on his daily escort to his car last night.
To make up for the 20 mil he'll be utilized to the max

TE. FB. Shanny's errand boy (must clean up after Jed's glory hole parties). Place holder and Brendel's back up in practice

I am not sure that Kyle is no longer involved in personnel matters, but even if he isn't he still would have significant input on the pieces he wants. We are not in the Jim Harbaugh and Baalke era in which Baalke signed players Harbaugh didn't want.

Lynch is sitting in a office with Paraag & Jed, they just keep repeating "DO,IT!" or "NOT DOING IT!"
whenever he asks about free agent signings.

They might ban what Kyle wants. But they are not going to give an unproven player big money if Kyle said he doesn't want this player.

He's been relegated to play designer, no say on roster moves.
Ohio State tight end Luke Farrell of Perry pleased with pro day

Luke Ferrell Pleased with Pro Day

Kyle definitely wants to run the ball, and needs a great blocking TE
49ers led the NFL with a 55 percent success rate out of 12 personnel (2 TE) in 2023 at 55 percent. The problem is they only used that grouping 23 percent of the time, which was 27th in the NFL. ...
Why the 49ers signed Luke Ferrell

Every head coach has a say on roster moves. They aren't going to draft or sign anyone that he flat out doesn't want.
