You're not guaranteed guys in the draft. People have talked for years how the NFL does things backwards. Should have the draft first then teams can fill in holes AFTER.
Of course the players union will not go for that.
You defend anything? Nobody even heard of this guy including you and now you are selling it. Lol

You mean $6.7M a year? Not the same as "$20 mill" lol

He's the guy who can block an edge rusher long enough so Purdy can get the throw off and not snap his elbow. That's who

Clearly signed for his blocking but nobody gives $11 mil guaranteed to a guy who...well isn't guaranteed a roster spot.
That is good news. In his 2021 draft profile, run blocking was noted the area of improvement:
Overview
In-line tight end prospect with good size and adequate strength but lacking consistency in centering and sustaining blocks. Farrell isn't going to dazzle anyone with play speed or athleticism and does most of his pass catching as a safe option in the flat or in the underbelly of zone coverage. Farrell needs to work on run-blocking technique, including his footwork, as a role as a dirty-work blocker is his most likely path to a roster spot.

Look if they want to sign him whatever. But not at that price.
Plus I don't think there was an urgency to pay him.
What a weird choice seriously.
If they want to spend money on the TE position, might as well sign another contract to the Niners All Pro TE who actually is one of the only players on the team that is always good on the field.

If you follow the draft or college ball you know who he is.

Seems like a lot of money for what he'll provide but i guess we have to wait for the contract details

Given that some of the most critical failed plays for us over the last few years came in failed pass protection….sign me up

If people think this is expensive go look at Tennessee signing some OT named Dan Moore for 20 million per year who's worse than Colton McKivitz. There's your "what in the actual f**k."

$6.7M for a pass blocking TE is… fine. Not great, not terrible. Just fine.
This feels more like a Day 5 FA signing than a Day 1 signing, though.

He's a dead ringer for the TE they tried to sign from Detroit last offseason. Excellent blocker with reliable hands that can slot in as the #2 TE. Deal is probably incentive laden as hell.

You fix that with a legit RT, not a bandaid to line up next to your sorry RT.
