It's like the Niners TE scout lucked into evaluating Kittle & has shut it down ever since. Woerner (not bad), Latu, the gold helmet guy from Oklahoma, Kaden Smith.
I think our FO stumbled into Kittle a blocking TE who had unrealized receiving talent at Iowa and now that's what they keep on trying to find.

A lot of that is going to be incentives. Right now it looks like a 2 year, $11 million dollar deal for an elite blocking tight end.
If that's the case that isn't that bad.

Idk, couldn't just draft this? Or take someone else's scraps when the frenzy dies down?

FO was reading the forums and needed to sign someone to distract us for a quick minute while other players are getting scooped up.

if that were the case they should be looking at the late rounds in the draft, not in FA ?
TE position is tough for most rookies unless they spend a lot of time in the slot receiving. I think it has to do more with that than anything else...when they drafted Kittle he had to sit behind Celek for a year.

Hopefully this means the draft is more on trenches.

You could say that about virtually every signing today. Javon Kinlaw got $30m guaranteed. Dan Moore, a worse tackle than McKivitz got $18m a year.

Clearly signed for his blocking but nobody gives $11 mil guaranteed to a guy who...well isn't guaranteed a roster spot.
He excel in pass blocking. Ok....The only thing this makes sense is if we are converting him to OT.

I don't know why they'd want a #2 TE that excels in pass blocking.

He was not signed to be a pass catcher. He was signed to be a pass blocker to allow Kittle to run more routes instead of being held in to protect Purdy.
Last season, we had no one who could do that grimy work. Saubert was only on the field for 22 pass snaps. Willis for only 2. Tonges = 0.
Kittle was related to pass blocking on 58 snaps. So, let's assume that Farrell will take half of those. That puts Kittle in the pattern for roughly 30 more targets. THAT is a big deal, plus is reduces the wear-and-tear on George.
There is nothing not to like about this signing.

I think this could be a good move if he pans out. Just because he wasn't asked to catch passes doesn't mean he can't, but either way TE's are cheaper than wr's and they can do multiple things (Block/Catch).
I think a double tight offense at times can make it hard on a defense, especially if Kittle is split out wide, do you go into your heavy package or do you stay in your nickel defense? Either way this makes it tough on defenses to scheme us up.
With that said, I know nothing about this player LOL
