It's like the Niners TE scout lucked into evaluating Kittle & has shut it down ever since. Woerner (not bad), Latu, the gold helmet guy from Oklahoma, Kaden Smith.

I think our FO stumbled into Kittle a blocking TE who had unrealized receiving talent at Iowa and now that's what they keep on trying to find.

The same thing happened with Roger Craig and Tom Rathman. Neither caught more than 10 asses in theur college career. Walsh saw Craigs potential and made him a 1000 yard receiving back. Rathman also caught a lot in Walsh's system.

I remember Rathman saying Walsh almost cut his ass in one of the America's Game episodes lol.
3D chess by Kyle and the front office!

Lol
Giving a blocking TE $11 Million guaranteed when you are trying to be careful with your spending tells me that they know they will need Kittle more in the receiving game than usual. And he's much better as a pass blocker than a run blocker.

The best FA on the market. This is the signing that will get the 49ers over the hump.

Paying a blocking TE that kind of money and not giving it to Joey Bosa is kind of crazy

Don't know if Joey is willing to line up on Offense and block
"Farrell, 27, earned an impressive 82.6 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus last season."

I like it. Last season the 49ers were missing that blocking depth at TE after Woerner signed with the Falcons.

Ready for the next move.
49er needs - Oline protection

49ers - You're going to get a TE2 and you're going to like it!

82.6 Pass Blocking Rating is the only positive I see from this.

You're not guaranteed guys in the draft. People have talked for years how the NFL does things backwards. Should have the draft first then teams can fill in holes AFTER.

Of course the players union will not go for that.

Is that a fair statement for what is effectively a blocking TE. Not much mystery in a blocking TE.

Well, a Tackle and a WR cost a lot more $ so we are taking the discount path LOL
