Brandon Staley come to mind when I see this
More ego than talent. He's no where near as tough and resilience as Purdy. That's the difference. Give him time to throw, he's decent. Gets knocked around, he wilts.

Mac Jones was semi decent with the team Tom Brady left behind, but soon showed his true colors once that roster started changing.

They went 7-9 the year before. The only skill position player remaining from the Brady era was Jakobi Meyers.

Jones was throwing to Meyers, Kendrick Bourne and Hunter Henry. If anything that season was an incredible job of playcalling by Josh McDaniels who was replaced by a career defensive coordinator in Matt Patricia.
Nick Mullens looked decent in Kyle's system. What has he done since he left. Darnold looked much better in Kyle's system and went on to have his best season in Minnesota after playing in SF for one year. JG looked okay when he was healthy in SF. Hasn't done anything since. My point is Kyle has a QB friendly system once the terminoligy is mastered. I don't know if Jones will learn it quickly but if he does he'll be fine as a backup.

To be fair to Mullens he's had himself a nice backup QB career, which isn't nothing for an undrafted guy. But yeah, Jones should be a better backup than Mullens is.
