Oh man I can already see it now.. Purdy isn't playing to the level of his contract, he ends up going down, a complete 9er zone meltdown ensues the likes of which we haven't seen since Harbaugh proclaimed Alex Smith the starter… but then Mac Jones comes out with nothing to lose and starts killing it 😂

That I can agree with. I heard this dude is a bad teammate though. Which is why he was ousted in New England.
Maybe but guys grow up. I just don't see the downside because Allen sucks and we need a quality backup in the worst way.
Jones is a good back up I don't see how anyone can disagree with that. I just hope he did grow up and won't have to hear or see about him b***hing.

Reminder:
"I remember coming back from Ohio State, and Justin Fields had had a fantastic workout," Lynch told Collinsworth. "But on the way back, we're on the plane — Jed (York) was nice enough to get us a plane — and Kyle's on his iPad with that [Apple] Pencil, and he's just grinding over there.
"Finally, he said, 'Look at this.' I was wondering what he was doing. Well, he was drawing up stuff with Trey in mind. We had just come from Justin Fields' (workout), and we both agreed his workout was fantastic. But that's when I said, 'He's really all in on this.' And the excitement he had, because he's doodling there, drawing up plays with Trey in mind."
Lynch and Shanahan felt this was a strong rookie quarterback class, so if they were going to consider a shakeup in the quarterback room, this was the perfect offseason to do so.
"We really had started focusing in on Trey, myself, and Kyle, as the guy that we were very much interested in," Lynch said. "So we make that move from 12. We called teams. We didn't call Jacksonville at one. We talked to the Jets a little at two. We talked to Miami at three. I have a very good relationship with (Dolphins GM) Chris Grier. That one showed promise right away. They were interested.
Lynch was glad that Shanahan was so high on Lance early on because that's the quarterback the general manager loved too. Still, both committed to seeing the process through. While they were in love with Lance's film, they wanted to see the quarterback in person. They also wanted to listen to what their scouting staff and coaches had to say and do their homework on the other prospects.
Then there's also the story that Lynch told how early on in the process both agreed to not reveal who they wanted, and Kyle went first and said it was Lance and Lynch was happy because they were both in agreement. This stupid s**t that Florio and Sims pushed was absolute bs, I don't why people keep pushing that b******t story from them.
I honestly don't think they knew who they wanted until the day of. I have no way to prove it but that's my opinion.
That was my sense as well. They made the insane trade in March and then started evaluating the QBs. Then they probably realized what a mistake they made.

Should have just pulled an audible and not take a QB at all. Should have just drafted Sewell. They made the trade up too soon without doing their homework on all the QBs. But they followed up 1 mistake with another mistake. Once they traded up they were determined to take a QB no matter what because trading multiple 1st RD picks for a non QB would be critisized.

I am not a huge fan of Mac but he is a huge upgrade over Dobbs and Allen. Mac has shown he can win games in this league.

Jones smart to seek the 49er QB2 rehab that Darnold got. Obviously we don't want him to play aside from garbage time, but having a QB2 with starter experience is always a positive.
5M guaranteed for 2-years is dirt cheap for a QB2 with starting experience. Solid deal.

This would be close to last chance saloon for Mac Jones
If he flames out under Kyle he won't last long in the NFL
In other words - he should be motivated - this is his best and perhaps last shot at reviving his career.

Yup he has. His arm is probably stronger than Purdy's too.
