This at a minimum a two year change with the soonest possible sniff of a return to the playoffs in 2027. These next two drafts are going to be a base for what happens in the future with almost a whole new OLine (Trent will NOT get a championship with us), a whole DLine (Nicky suffering the same fate as Trent), and replacements for other players who move on. But, still ride or die w/ the Niners

Nick's 27 years old and is the most valuable player we have. He can easily be a part of a second run if we are successful enough building the team in the first place.

"We are considering?" LOL. Because some reporter pulled it out of his keester and decided it smelled good? There is no attribution to the story. No quote from anyone on the 49ers. Yet, you believe it? Because?

If the goal is to get younger, faster and cheaper, I do not see the 49ers signing him.

Well they just announced his signing, so I guess they were considering it after all.

Except for the whole fact that you need a foundation to build on. Getting rid of all your proven vets for unknowns in the draft is asking for failure.

Stripping down the roster and getting rid of overpaid and underperforming players and replacing them with young and hungry players is more likely to pay off for a quicker turnaround.

My only question is if there is more to come. If there is another off-loading to come, I would think it would occur around the draft. There is also the possibility of the unknown. How many players that are left, here I mean our stars, have the patience for a re-(whateves)? Maybe, they will want out. We shall soon find out.

What are they saving money for, Leeds United getting promoted?

I understand the purge and I'm full on board with it now. Honestly, I don't believe they're giving up on playoffs/SB. It only seems that way because many key vets aren't on the roster anymore. If they trade 2/3 of Williams, BA, CMC, Warner, Kittle or Bosa (all HOF and still very good) in the next couple months then we know what's up, but they're still here and they will build around that.

Since they're tight on cash, they'll have to be diligent with their bargain hunting. I think they'll sign (one year) a few more guys to help solidify Dline, LB, safety spot and bring in the rest from the draft. The oline needs a lot of help at center, a legit swing tackle and guard would be great.

Bosa's the only starter on the Dline. Elliot, G Matos and Givens are solid backups. Sam O and Anderson did well and have potential to surpass those guys. It looks like they'll let the 3 Tres battle in camp for Wards absence. Hopefully, they bring in a safety better than the backups currently signed. LB is where they need most help and should sign one FA and 2 in draft.

4/5 more free agents and 11 picks in the draft, the roster will look completely different with a lot guys under 27. I don't know how well the (almost new) team will perform, nobody does. Let's see if their plan works.

It is tough to get promoted, they will have to sign some high priced soccer players with that bread in order to get promoted.

I don't get the talk of "blowing it up". We got a decent roster. Yes it's not the best but its decent. We needed to trim fat and we needed to get younger. We don't need to be paying top dollar or some average vets in free agency that will only drain our cap and will need to be replaced 2 years down the road. .

Build through the draft and next year when the dead cap space clear maybe we make a bigger splash for some of yall who need to see big free agency spending.

We might not make the playoffs with this roster. Depth is a concern as is gaps in who starts.

Meh. We didn't make the playoffs last year with all the big names either so ...

A team can't stay at the top for years and years like the Patriots did, but the universe lined up to aid in that too. Namely Brady, then the weak azz division, coaching (but without Brady we see he was hovering around average) some help from the refs time to time (unlike KC which is most games the past 3-4 years)

I am sure I am in the minority and think this team will be better than last year. ( Six wins is a pretty low bar )

But I think the younger guys will step up and take pride in being bumped up in status instead of being backup options to Deebo and other starters.
Fat needed to be trimmed sooner than this year but at least they're doing it now.

It's not a full blown rebuild but more of a retooling in my opinion. The team needed some younger hungry player's on the field instead of underperforming / injured overpaid "stars", and I'm looking at Trent and the departed Deebo, and Yuk this season if he performs like he did in last year's games prior to his injury.

Really? Who would you like them to just release? Steph? Draymond? Lacob and the Warriors ownership >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> York and 49ers. Really a dumb post

Agreed it's not even close with ownership.

They are currently top of the Championship (English tier-2) league, with a fifth of the season to play. They are more likely to achieve promotion than not at this stage.

The funny thing is we just released a bunch of underperforming players from a team that went 6-11 last year.

Greenlaw is the only guy who would've been great to keep because we don't have a legit replacement for him.

We also just watched the Rams do this type of reset literally 2 years ago. EERILY similar situation.

They go to the SB. Following season suffer some injuries and go 5-12.
In the offseason they trade away some of their big names and release some others(including Leonard Floyd)
They sign no big name or big $ free agents
They attack the draft even without a 1st round pick to show for that 5-12 season. They make 14 picks and add a bunch of UDFAs

They come back with big contributions by their rookies and go 10-7 looking really strong going into the postseason.

We also just watched the Bills do this...last year.
They cut a bunch of their vets(including Leonard Floyd). Add a bunch of dead cap in the process.
They add almost nobody of big name, $ in free agency.

We all know how close they were to going to the SB.

I keep seeing this point but the amount of starters we've lost, along with the lack of depth seems more severe. Both Stafford and Allen are top 5 QBs that elevates the offense, Purdy hasn't quite proven that and we are about to mary him for 5yrs. 2026 is the plan to regroup but this might end badly if we don't hit this draft or develop "young" players and we're left with an aging TE, LT, RB, WR with two torn ligaments with an "above average" QB

Allen yes. Stafford has been on the decline. He's still an excellent QB with a big arm and the experience of a 15+ year vet but go back and look at what Stafford did in their last 2 years and tell me Purdy can't do that if CMC is healthy the way Kyren Williams was for Stafford?

And way to undersell what we have. Especially this early into free agency and pre draft...

Go look at that Rams roster before their draft in 2022.

35 year old QB coming off an injury plagued season
RBs who have never cracked 800 yards, let alone 1k
30 year old WR who was coming off a bunch of injuries
Then go look at their OL....

This 49ers roster even with all the guys who left is a bunch better roster from the talent perspective and building blocks to build around.
Those that were cut should have been aside from Dre but with his injuries....him too. I would include TW if it were up to me.

Time to get younger, hungry and motivated.

Of the six youngest teams, four went to playoffs and two went to Super Bowl.

As we know, before the recent movement we were near the oldest team in the league (number three?)

We can't sustain the way we were with the injuries. I bet after draft the excitement level is high again.

I think so too. Feel like the roster is being slept on right now. Looking forward to seeing what they do in the draft.
