I don't care at all about numbers, I watched a player on his own team who I think is a better player and a better pass rusher. I don't care that he wouldn't have been able to set the edge on base downs as a full time end. I'd have found other work for him.
They might be right, I've just stopped automatically assuming that they are.
That's the thing, they clearly do. They're hoping for both from Mykel. I also easily see them double dip on the position tonight or tomorrow.
But that doesn't mean they're right. There's currently no one on the roster to act as the 3rd LB in base downs be it as a SAM, WILL or 2nd MIKE.
I believe Jalon Walker could have filled one of those roles at a very high level and been a better pass rusher on 3rd down. I'm happy to be proven wrong, I hope that Williams is the guy.

We were awful in defending the run, where the league is moving to, so I don't see how they can't be right for wanting to plug that as a floor AND have upside in passrush.
They, like many analysts, probably saw Walker as too much of a square peg in a round hole for us, and would rather get a sideline to sideline thumper with good coverage instincts to pair with Fred.
This also isn't black and white. No one is assuming s**t and "drinking the koolaid" just because they're happy with the pick.
With the decimation of the roster to pay Brock, the regime is fully aware that they need to crush this draft more than ever. Many like the pick and would rather give the benefit of the doubt to people who get paid to do this for a living (scouting, front office, etc) and are now in crunch time, rebuilding the roster.

Wanting an edge setting run plugging DE is about as valuable to a defence as a Fullback to an offense. If that is all he brings it's an absolutely wasted pick, so I don't care if that's his floor. He needs to become a productive pass rusher.
Doesn't need to be a 10+ sack number one type guy as we have Bosa, but he absolutely needs to win his 1v1's and apply consistent pressure, that is the floor.
Time will tell who is right, I shouldn't accuse others of drinking the Kool-aid, but having been there myself I do recognise the signs and symptoms!

49ersBigMac is a good, longtime poster. Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinions and agree or disagree with each other but his posts are genuine, he's not looking for a reaction or to troll people like some others. I think sometimes we all can agree to disagree on stuff and there's nothing wrong with that.

Dear douchebags, your "analysis" from the taco bell counter means absolutely nothing. And "Shany / Lynch" have done nothing but take this team to or near the superbowl A LOT! f**king idiots!

Starting to slightly warm on this pick. The power is amazing. His bull rush is ridiculous. He controls the offensive linemen in front of him too. With the extreme length and power way beyond his size. I would think he's 320 lbs. watching him. Not 260 lbs. - 270 lbs. He plays much bigger. The 6'5" with really long arms is great. If he can eat up blockers he will free our LB's to fly around. Also our pure pass rushers too. Not sure he is one of them. But he has his role. This pick may end up ok. Still think it's a bit high for a guy without the sack stat numbers. But I do see some good things on the tape. I think I see what they are seeing.

if we learned anything last year is that stopping the run and holding the edge is more imponent then getting just a sack guy. I think he is still a 5 to 10 sack guy who will be stout against the run. That would be worth the pick for sure
