Don't hate the pick but it feels like some of the other DT's available had better all-around ability.

Of the DTs left on the board, he was rated higher than the others except for two. Of course that depends on whose board you are using and what you judge on or what you need. Of the DTs 49ers had come in for 30 visit he wasn't one of them. They didn't even do a virtual. So could be they didn't expect him to be there.

This pick and the first round Mykel shores up the defense tremendously. He just needs to collapse the pocket, not even be a sack specialist. This would flush the QB to Bosa and Mykel or Bosa and Mykel can force the QB to step up in the pocket and if Al can collapse the pocket even a yard, can batt down the pass which he seems good at with those long arms or at least alter the throw.

First thing first, need to stop the run to cause those 2nd and 3rd and longs.

This is the first true nose tackle i can remember the 49ers drafting since Soap maybe?

Actually for us old guys that have followed the Niners since their inception(born in 46 and my Uncle was one of the original players back then), this guy is the first real deal since Michael Carter was drafted by Bill Walsh! Looks to be a great pick, hope it tuns out that way!

That's awesome lore.

I have seen a few Mocks this year with Collins Mocked to SF. They were with our first 3rd rounder, but I did see a couple.

Well, I kind of exaggerated a little but pretty much 96% of them he was nowhere to be seen lol
I love that everyone seems to pretty happy with this pick. I didn't know a lot about him but the more I see, I'm stoked.

THE CROWD WILL BE ... " ALF !! ALF !! ALF !! ALF !! "

That's just what he's gonna be doing out there vs. Olines...

Seems to be the most safe and bust proof pick yet.

They needed a middle plugger that didn't cost 20 million a year.

Fearful for purdys life at this point though. Better spend like the rest of the picks on oline.

Saleh got in Yorks ear
They've added 600lbs to the DL.
This is one of my favorites in the draft. We needed a huge, gap plugger, run stuffer in the middle. We get abused in there.

6'5 - 5/8" 332 lbs. - Great

5.09 40 yard dash - Impressed

34 5/8 arm length - Great

Play in College - Very good

Program - Texas - Blue Chip

** Obviously a huge position of need and style of player we were seeking.

I think this is a great pick. Maybe my favorite so far in the draft. Huge need and the right guy. Love his size and power. Tired of getting pushed around in the middle of the defensive line. Especially on run plays.

The new 49er DL is going to stuff the hell out of the run

I was hoping we could get Tyleik Williams but DET took him in the 1st

Collins is an absolute beast against the run but he offers less pass rush

Agree his pass rush isn't there but for a reason, he locks it down with his strength even against double teams fighting like hell not to let the gap open, on top of that he can block shed and collapse the lane if the rb dares to go through it. Then hes 6'6 and will jump and bat the ball down. Was having trouble finding a comparison. John Henderson is probably the best comp for sure
I passed on him at #43 in my all Texas mock as I thought he'd be there at #75, Caldwell going in the 80's tells me there was a chance.

All that said I love the pick, I think he has potential to grow, but even if he doesn't he's tough to move with the ability and then to extend and shed blocks. I think he can add some pass rush moves and be an impact player, but I'd still want him off the field on obvious passing downs, maybe moving Williams inside on those.

Give me another edge tomorrow please. Can't believe Swinson is still there, but I'll take Collins' teammate Sorrell as well.

I was terrified we betrayed Saleh letting half the defense go along with Greenlaw but I think this is a draft for him as it needs to be along with Kocurek. Might take a year but this defense is forming into bully ball. Let's not forget that 2019 unit were not pure pass rushers but collapsed the pocket from all ends
