Most of the best returners don't have blazing speed. Vision and being able to break tackles is more important.
I've watched this young man since he was in high school. Very good athlete with a strong head on his shoulders. He was a game changer for the Montana Grizzlies. Excellent return guy. So happy he gets to prove it at the next level.

Checks notes…last punt return (not off a blocked punt) for TD was 2011 for the 49ers. Youd have to go back to 1995 to get to 8 TDs total.

He was reasonably productive at his level. Pretty good athlete. Can play WR but also KR and PR. So maybe returns is what they are looking at. It's not a bad pick where we got him. I'm fine with it. Maybe a developmental guy who can do some returns.

dunno amigo.... guys make the NFL based on their special teams abilities all the time
In fact, there is a whole subset of fringe guys in the NFL solely based off their ability to play special teams.

I dig it. When's the last time we had a real threat back there? We didn't have anyone last year so we wound up using Deebo.
Exactly. I don't know him but I'd sign up every day of the week for a legit return man in the 7th

- NFL Pick 'em
Bust if he doesn't have a career as good as Purdy if not better.
He's from the same school as Marc Mariani who was a pro bowl return man for the Tennessee Titans about 10 years ago. Head coach Bobby Hauck also coaches special teams and has coached up a lot of unheralded walk ons into great special teams players. I've watched Mariani and Bergen many times in person, and they are both very patient and let the play develop.

I know he's coming in as a KR - but he will have to be elite to justify the roster spot if he can't contribute as a WR. There are already six WRs ahead of him on the depth chart.

The KR position has very low bar.

Why did we wait until the 2025 draft, to get a return guy?
This was a Defense and ST draft, we are reactionary but I hope it all works out.

Brass seems deadset on not getting their ass whooped in special teams so he's going to make the team .
