But but but the cap isn't preventing us from signing any FAs. Forget upgrading the OL, safety position or pass rush. We could still make 1 more solid move to put us over the top. Even the Rams dramatically improved their run D with Wagner

It's funny you see that post and see we're not trying cause we have no cap. I see that an see if we really wanted any these guys were one move from affording anyone.

I'm not really sure what the 49ers are doing. I guess some portion of the cap savings will "rollover" into the next year if we don't use it. Still, I think it is clear JG contract is hindering our ability to sign at least some FAs or resign a few of our guys.

I think what they're doing is the right thing, keep JG till healthy, don't cut him and eat $7.5M, so when they do trade or cut him, they save the entire $25.55M, so they can rollover a ton into 2023, when they're gonna need some money for Bosa & Deebo's extensions this offseason, they'll likely count $26M combined, they have about $38M with 51 players factored in, so that leaves them with just $12M or so, so carrying over like $14M would help a ton.

As for FA now, I don't see it hindering them, if they want to add or re-sign someone, they could just redo Trent($4.904M saved) or extend Ward($6.224M saved), so it's not really hindering them IMO, am I upset JG is still here, no not really, I did however want to get something for him, so holding onto him makes sense, as for FA, I'm happy with the additions, Ward is a great signing, but, I wish we went after an IOL, I'm good with Hyder, Willis, Omenihu, & Ebukam with Bosa at EDGE, hope they add a young guy in the draft, people forget that all looked good in a 49ers uniform, Hyder in 2020, the other 3 in 2021, so I have faith, plus, Kocurek is like a genius it feels like, he can make a DL into a stud, then they go to poo poo when they leave, so have faith in Kocurek & the DL guys.

But yes the IOL I'm worried about, RT I think we'll be ok, I hope MM can come back, he was having a good year, maybe his best year Pass Protection wise, he's an upgrade over Compton, who played well, but I also have faith in Banks, Moore, McKivitz, etc.... Hoping it works out, I'd be lying if I said I'm happy with the OL, IOL wise, but ehh, only Mack is the guy I trust, Trent is a beast, so hopefully Banks next to him will help make Banks a better player. RG scares me, I don't want Brunskill there, I hope, if no vet, or draftee, Moore gets the gig, at least in preseason, see what he has against teams' Number 1 DL.

It's not a case of not being able to sign some fre agents. I think they are trying to avoid getting into cap hell down the road. The Rams are willing to push everything down the road and sign high priced talent in their quest to win another SB. Eventually they will have to pay and will lose a lot of players. Neither way is the right way or the wrong way. It's just a business decision.

We've seen what happens when a team gets into cap hell. It happened after Carmine Policy kept pushing salaries downhill until they couldn't be pushed anymore. The 49ers fell into a deep hole that endured for a few years as they went thru coach after coach. It's hard to recover from that because once a team gets bad free agents don't want to come there anymore.

Exactly, neither is the wrong or right way, both have worked, both have failed, and yes we were in serious cap hell in the late 90s-early 2000s, and yes the Rams will lose players, they have already, some good ones in FA, Von being the biggest one, then guys like Williams, Corbett, Joseph-Day, Okornonwko, then Whitworth retired, so LT might be iffy for the Rams, Noteboom could play well or badly. They traded Woods, who I think is as good, if not better than Robinson, who I think isn't worth the kind of money he got, so IMO, let the Rams overpay Robinson & Wagner, kick the can down the road, keep losing players each year, it worked 1 time, I don't care if they've not had a losing season, went to 2 SBs, if you're doing what they did, they need to win both, I know we went to a SB and another NFC Title game, so it's the same with us, time to put up or shut up, time to win, we'll see, I'm pumped for the new season, seeing Ward in a 49ers uni, and Trey at QB.

Maybe you and OTC aren't the ones who are off

You might be right,
FYI, right now I have us at $1,663,046 under, with out current picks, it will only cost us $589,844 in cap room for our picks, top 51 wise, as the top 4 picks(2nd, 3rd, 3rd, & 4th) would count, plus non top 51 picks' prorated bonuses, the reason for this is the fact that those 4 will replace 4 players making $895K, which is $3.58M, so those 9 current picks can be signed without moving Jimmy or making another restructure, but we really need to either offload Jimmy by the time the season begins, or get him to take a revised deal, making maybe $10M, with the rest in incentives, he kinda owes us for deciding to have surgery so close to FA.

That, or we're gonna have to redo someone, like Trent, saves $4.904M, or extend Jimmie Ward, saves $6.224M, plus removes that $6.395M dead money hit in 2023 when we only have $38M in cap room with 21 players signed, and that's including 20 players making the minimum of $750K, so rolling over as much of that $25.55M would be great, cause we need that money for re-signings, like Ward, Moseley, Ebukam, McGlinchey, all depends of course on how well some of those play.
Oh, and latest article.

Update, I have the 49ers at $1,460,546 under their 2022 adjusted cap, this is after the Marcus Johnson, & Malik Turner signings.

Johnson got a 1yr $1.035M deal, only $895K counts, he also got $250K of his base salary GTD

Turner got a 1yr $1.11M deal, only $895K of the $1.035M base counts, $50K workout bonus, $25K week 1 roster bonus(this is if he makes the 53-man roster, since he wasn't on one last year week 1 it's treated as NLTBE), and $300K of his base salary GTD.

I figured out why I was off, Ross Dwelley's $152,500 incentives count against the cap.
Is there any money to sign any mid level vets left out there?

Mid level as in guys who would sign for the minimum? Yes, cause they really don't count, now, only their bonuses would, and they can, as of now, sign their draft picks without releasing/trading Jimmy, they could redo Trent's deal, saves $4.904M, likely have to redo someone if Jimmy actually stays, which I don't see happening.

My latest article, https://49erscap.com/index.php/2022/04/15/my-5th-breakdown-of-the-49ers-current-2022-roster-with-my-locks-50-50s-longshots-plus-analysis/

I have 45 locks, yes Kemoko is on there, even though I don't have terms, yet, I think he's a lock.

Also I would have the following making the team without picks of course.

I have a new article coming out tomorrow, my updated projected roster, with updated mock draft, SPOILER ALERT: OL heavy, that's all lol.
Also, on Kemoko Turay, I'm pretty sure he got the VSB deal, so he gets a $1.035M base, but only $895K counts, he likely got $152,500 in bonus money, and some of his base GTD, wouldn't surprise me if it's all GTD, Marcus Johnson got $250K GTD, & Malik Turner got $300K GTD in their base salaries.
New article, my updated 53-man roster, PS, + mock draft, https://49erscap.com/index.php/2022/04/16/my-way-way-too-early-2022-49ers-projected-roster-with-my-updated-mock-draft-4-0/
