I love how they frontloaded Deebo's salary. They did the same for Jimmy and probably will do the same for Bosa. It adds so much to the cap flexibility! You obviously can't do that for all the potential free agent players (like Laken, Arden Key, DJ Jones) but I don't think you need to - if you make good decisions on who to extend. Plus if you continue to draft relatively well.

Agreed.

I can't wait for other teams' twitter followers asking how the 49ers can extend Bosa, Aiyuk, after extending Deebo, Warner, Kittle, Trent, Juice, sign Ward as a FA, like 49ers fans ask me how can the Rams keep doing it, easy to manipulate the cap.

Agree, and AB81 makes a good point about signing Bosa and Deebo, but Aiyuk might be a bit of a problem. Hopefully the frontloading of Deebo and Bosa will help sign Aiyuk in - I think - 2024. But if we make the playoffs in 2023 and 2024, it's going to be very tight in trying to retain Aiyuk as well as all the other players AB81 mentions.

Are you talking about my article? I wouldn't worry too much, check out my podcast with 49Karat's, I don't see any issues in re-signing our core guys, not saying the guys I put in the article are core guys, just some they may like to bring back on short term deals, long term deals are for Bosa, Aiyuk, maybe Ward.
Correct details are in for Deebo Samuel's extension.

https://49erscap.com/index.php/2022/08/05/contract-details-for-deebo-samuels-extension-are-officially-in/

Samuel received a $24.035 million signing bonus, plus a $9.215 million option bonus in 2023, while his 2022 base salary, 2023 base salary, & $4.555 million of his 2024 base salary are fully guaranteed, meaning $41 million is guaranteed at signing, plus he has yearly $750,000 per game roster bonuses, & $200,000 workout bonuses starting in 2023.

Also, his 2023 per game roster bonus, 2023 workout bonus, & 2024 workout bonus become fully guaranteed 3 days after Deebo Samuel officially signed his deal, which was this Monday, so they should become fully guaranteed on Thursday, meaning his fully guaranteed money will go up to $42.15 million.

💯% - I was adding a bit on to your articles with my own take. The thing I hate about the playoffs is that playoff teams, year in and year out, lose a lot of depth by CAP design. This year we lose Arden Key, Laken Tomlinson and DJ Jones. If you don't replace that depth, you go back to 8-8 (or worse) pretty Quickley. I can see us losing guys like Aiyuk and Greenlaw or Azeez - good depth players - after every playoff run.

If you look at the last three years (13-3; 6-10; 10-7) I can see that as a regular kind of cycle, if you don't replace the lost depth with good drafting and signings. It's almost like Win the super bowl in year 1, next year stock up, then after that win the super bowl again in year 3, kind of cycle so to speak.

Nice, I forgot he's still on his rookie contract for this year. 4 years - better than I thought after reading he got a 3-year contract.
