as the team will have enough cap room next year, even if they have to restructure guys like George Kittle, & Trent Williams, if they can't get Armstead, Greenlaw, & Ward extended before next March, plus the team will be looking to extend the likes of Aaron Banks, Deommodore Lenoir, & Talanoa Hufanga, all who will be on expiring deals, and of course Brandon Aiyuk, who has a $14.124 million cap hit for 2024, which should be lowered with an extension sometime in the Summer of 2024.
That's a ton of restructuring for 2024, no wonder Jeff Diamond and the other front office folks (including Frank Gore) were promoted. Paraag needs help to deal with the 2024 cap!

Not as bad as it seems, it's like 2022 was, we were over $20M over the cap, ended up getting under, kept Al-Shaair for 1 more yr on 2nd rd tender(same as Jennings will get IMO), and signed Mooney Ward, if we don't extend those 3, just redo Kittle, & Trent, plus Deebo, we'll have cap room, won't lose our core players.

I've always thought that the draft had a big cap effect. As an example, in 2022 Kyle drafted Purdy, and now the front office can (possibly as you said) keep the core players because Purdy isn't going to cost 20+ million in 2024. The only thing I dislike about restructuring is the dead cap possibilities it creates if the player is injured (Dee Ford is an example). I still remember how Pierre Garcon really hurt the cap with his unforeseen career ending injury, thank god at that time, we were a bottom feeding team and had tons of cap space to absorb Peirre's dead cap.

If the 49ers continue to draft well, i.e. Dee Winters or Robert Beal pan out, maybe you have a bit more flexibility with guys like Greenlaw. I know Kyle is really confident in McKivitz and Moore and let McGlinchy go. That's the power of drafting well, you stay ahead of all the potential cap hell restructuring gives you.

Exactly, all of this is 100% true, and well said.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's his cap number not his actually salary this year. Two different things all together. That's just the bean counters making sure all the beans fit year over year.

more importantly what's the total cost of ownership over his contract and where does that compare?

Only saves $940K for 2023, but a bit over $5.31M in 2024. Now around $9M over 2024's projected $256M cap, pre Bosa extension.

And no dead money after 2024?

Correct, it's $8.3M dead money in 2023, and $5.5M in 2024, nothing after 2024.

It doesn't seem like much money is left to sign Bosa to a long term deal. Will they have to cut players or renegotiate them to be able to sign Bosa? Will the cap go way up in the next few years because of the TV deal?

They were prepared for Bosa. He isn't going to be an issue, in spite of the fact that he hasn't signed yet.

The cap will be going up by $20m or more each yr, 24 wise we can save over $15.8m by redoing Deebo, plus over $27m by extending Dre, Ward, & Armstead. But no we'll be fine in 24 & beyond, no need to cut anyone.
Do the Cowboys get a 5th year option?
