Eric Saubert & Rock Ya-Sin signed similar deals, both got $1.125M base salaries, $71,250 signing bonuses, $71,250 roster bonus for making week 1 roster, & $25K workout bonuses, but Saubert got $400K of his base GTD, Ya-Sin $985K, both deals are veteran minimum salary benefit deals, so only $985K of their base salaries count against the cap, plus the bonuses, except Saubert's, his $71,250 roster bonus doesn't right now, unless he makes the week 1 53-man roster, as he didn't make a 2023 53-man roster for week 1.

Thank you for all the work you do. IMO, managing the salary cap is as important as drafting and coaching and building a roster. If you mismanage the cap and get into salary cap hell, you run the risk of having your Super Bowl window slammed shut and being forced to jettison great players. In the beginning, I wasn't a fan of Paraag but my opinion has changed and I think he's done a great job managing our cap and ensuring that our Super Bowl window remains open.

Thank you, I appreciate that, means a lot to know my hard work is appreciated.

Update on the 49ers cap room, with the current picks signed, & UDFA terms on OTC's website, I have the 49ers $5,437,295 under their adjusted salary cap, which is a whopping $296,557,234, but it'll go up by $907,200 since each year teams have a certain amount of their adjustments subtracted for the offseason workout program.

The draft picks terms which are on OTC, as they have the draft picks rookie numbers almost down to the exact dollar on their draft page, aren't 100% confirmed, but they're close enough for now, and 4 UDFAs terms are known.

Evan Anderson got a $30K signing bonus & $250K of his 2024 base salary fully guaranteed, Briason Mays got a $10K signing bonus, & $10K of his 2024 base salary fully guaranteed, Jaylen Mahoney got a $8K signing bonus, and $27K of his 2024 base salary fully guaranteed, and finally Terique Owens got a $6,500 signing bonus, with no money in his base salary fully guaranteed.

With the projected numbers for the final 2 picks, and before the other UDFAs, Tanner Mordecai, Cody Schrader, Drake Nugent, & Mason Pline, I have the 49ers $3,917,988 under that $296,557,234 adjusted salary cap for 2024.

Of course the 49ers will get back a little over $18M from the Arik Armstead release, will come on June 2nd, but the 49ers will most likely be between $15M-$17M under the cap when the season begins, but that doesn't include whatever they save from a Brandon Aiyuk extension, which is as much as nearly $10.4M saved, they can also save cap room by extending Mooney Ward, who has a $12.298M dead money hit in 2025, which I believe they can get his 2025 cap number either at that or under that number, they'd save $9.148M in cap room, while having him under contract for 2025 & beyond on a new multi-year deal.

All in all, the 49ers could end up between $34.5M to $36.5M under their adjusted cap, but that depends on them extending Aiyuk with a small signing bonus, around $12.999M, but that won't happen, he's not taking less than a $25M signing bonus, which would prorate at $5M a year over 5-years(whether or not it's a 4yr or 5yr or just a 3yr extension they'll use void years), with a $1.125M base salary(minimum for Aiyuk), which gives him a $6.125M cap number for 2024, which saves the team $7.999M in cap room, which would mean they'd likely end up with between $32.147M to $34.147M in cap room to begin the 2024 season, with them likely to use up around $5M during the 2024 season on emergency roster moves, or roster moves, so they can carryover as much as $27.147M to $29.147M into 2025.

Also I'd expect Aiyuk's 2025 cap number to be lower than most may think, likely in the $14M range.
Update on the 49ers 2024 salary cap room, I have them, before the signing of Chris Hubbard, & with Ricky Pearsall unsigned, $5,382,035.

UDFA terms below.

QB Tanner Mordecai - $20K signing bonus & $100K base salary guarantee
RB Cody Schrader - $12K signing bonus, & $220K base salary guarantee
WR Terique Owens - $10K signing bonus
TE Mason Pline - $10K signing bonus, & $40K base salary guarantee
C Drake Nugent - $15K signing bonus, & $175K base salary guarantee
C Briason Mays - $10K signing bonus, & $10K base salary guarantee
NT Evan Anderson - $30K signing bonus, & $250K base salary guarantee
FS Jaylen Mahoney - $8K signing bonus, & $27K base salary guarantee

Update: Looks like Terique Owens actually got a $10K signing bonus, not a $6,500 signing bonus.

hey AB, thanks for the work as usual

is it realistically possible to extend Aiyuk, Ward and Purdy these next two years? And then there's Greenlaw, Hufanga, Lenoir, Jennings, Banks in '25, with McCafffrey, Kittle, Deebo looming in '26. Those last three, obviously might be very different players come '26.

but what do you think? how can we manage all these big salaries?

Thanks, I appreciate it.

It's realistic to keep, IMO, BA, Ward, Purdy & maybe Dre and/or Lenoir long term, Jauan, Banks, & Hufanga are likely gone, they pretty much drafted these guys replacements, with Pearsall & Cowing at WR, Puni, & Kingston at OG, & Mustapha at S. As for 2026, it's possible to keep all 3, depends on how they've produced, how healthy, & their price tag, plus the 49ers can't afford to pay 3 WRs good sized money, it's obvious Jauan will want at least $10M to $15M a yr IMO, the 49ers won't pay that, neither will they pay Banks $10M+ a yr, or Hufanga top tier S money, while Dre will depend on health, & DMo depends on how he plays, it'd be wise to extend these guys now, like Lenoir & get him cheaper than in 2025, also extending Ward saves $9.148M, BA extension can save around $7.999M with a $25M signing bonus, they get back $18M in June, but when I calculated projected rosters for this year I have the 49ers, before any extensions, around $15M-$17M under as the 52nd & 53rd player will count at least $795K each, and the Practice Squad will cost in the $4.5M range, if they do the two extensions(BA & Mooney), they'd be around $34.5M-$36.5M under to begin 2024, and likely would carryover in the $27M-$29M range into 2025.

I look at it like this, the 49ers have 10 players making $10M or more a year.

DE Bosa at $34M
WR Samuel at $23.85M
LT Williams at $23.01M
NT Hargrave at $21M
MLB Warner at $19.045M
RB McCaffrey at $16M
TE Kittle at $15M
CB Ward at $13.5M
DT Collins at $11.5M
DE Floyd at $10M

Obviously of these 10, Maliek Collins & Leonard Floyd aren't long term fits, both have no GTD money next year either, now I compare it to the Eagles, and they have the following making $10M or more a yr.

QB Hurts at $51M
WR Brown at $32M
WR Smith at $25M
LT Mailata at $22M
G Dickerson at $21M
RT Johnson at $20M
DE Huff at $17.033M
TE Goedert at $14.25M
CB Slay at $13M
CB Bradberry at $12.666M
RB Barkley at $12.583M
DE Sweat at $10M

That's 12 players making $10M a yr or more, & the majority are long term deals, with 3+ yrs left on them, so is it possible to keep BA at say $28M, Brock at $50M, Ward at $19M in 2025? Yes it is, all about the structure of the deals, any Purdy or Aiyuk deal will be like Nick Bosa's deal, low yrs 1-3 cap numbers, including the yr they signed the extension, so 2023-2025 for Nick, 2024-2026 for BA, & 2025-2027 for Brock, plus they'll likely do a 3 tier bonus for Brock like they did with Bosa, Nick got a $50M signing bonus in 2023, then he got 2 option bonuses, 1 in 2024 & 1 in 2025, $15.23M & $29.015M which prorate over 5yrs.

I like having the extra cap room to sign useful vets midseason.

Thanks AB! AB81!

Looking at Trent and Deebo - that's 46 million saved if they were let go/retire next year. That's probably where a good chunk of Brock's 60+ million salary will come from when Brock gets paid.

If Trent doesn't retire, from a cap standpint -- I can see ShanaLynch doing an Arik Armistead on him next year.

I highly doubt they cut either Trent or Deebo in 2025, especially Trent since they don't have a real replacement yet, and Deebo I just don't see them getting rid of him, but that's my opinion.

I keep looking at Philly and how they can pay
3 offensive lineman over 20 million
a quarterback 50 million
both receivers over 25 million
their tight end almost 15 million
their running back almost 15 million
not to mention players on defense
both corners making almost 15 million and so on.

The only big players I think we may have to get rid of/not resign are Banks, Jennings and possibly Huf or Greenlaw.

I looked at sportrac. PHL will spend $100M on top 8 players including 3 OL. You must confused with Cap and cash.

On the other hand, KC will spend $100M on their top 4 players Mahomes, Thurney, Taylor, Kelce.

Ye we spent over $100M on top 3 players. Williams, Deebo, Armstead(dead space), and Ward.

That's the reason why we can't win SB. Even we were gifted a free SB worthy QB by pure luck.

Those are salary cap numbers not what the player actually makes in cash, also look at these teams.

PHILLY:

RT Johnson - $15.865M (Deal has 4 void years in it, due to have up to $38.99M in dead money in 2027, but likely retires/released with after June 1)
QB Hurts - $13.558M (structured so it would have low cap numbers)
WR Brown - $11.878M (Was extended, thus lowering his cap number)
LT Mailata - $11.616M (Was extended, but increased his cap number by $1.175M)
CB Slay - $10.651M (He redid his deal last yr, they saved $14.283M, it also has 4 void yrs in it, with a $24.940M dead money hit in 2026)
C Kelce - $10.178M (Retired but will officially retire in June to spread the dead money over 2yrs)
TE Goedert - $9.131M (Has 4 void years, due to have a $23.832M dead money hit in 2026)
DE Graham - $8.198M (Retired but will officially retire in June to spread the dead money over 2yrs)
WR Smith - $8.127M (Was extended, increased cap hit by $1.7M)
DE Sweat - $8.027M (Restructured his deal, lowered his cap hit by around $6.7M)
LG Dickerson - $5.987M (Was extended, unsure of the increase)

KC:

QB Mahomes - $37.008M (Redid his deal in 2023, increasing his cap number)
LG Thuney - $26.971M (Signed in 2021, had low yr 1-3 cap numbers, then jumped up)
LT Taylor - $24.725M (Structured where he had a low yr 1 salary, & high yrs 2-4 cap numbers)
TE Kelce.- $19.551M (Signed an extension this offseason, increasing his cap number by $4M)

SF:

LT Williams - $31.568M
WR Deebo - $28.633M
DT Armstead - $28.353M (Cut as post June 1, 49ers get back $18M on June 2)
CB Ward - $18.401M (Redid his deal last year, increasing his cap hit)
DE Bosa - $14.671M (Signed extension last yr, has/had low 2023-2025 cap numbers)
RB McCaffrey - $14.144M (Redid his deal last year, increased cap hit by $2.144M)
WR Aiyuk - $14.124M (5th yr option)
MLB Warner - $12.649M (Redid deal this offseason, saved cap room)
TE Kittle - $12.204M (Redid deal this offseason, saved cap room)
WLB Greenlaw - $9.602M
NT Hargrave - $9.27M (redid his deal this offseason, saved cap room)

Oh, and that $28M for Armstead isn't dead money, as I said they save $18M in June.

It's all about structure of the deals, not APY's, Hurts structured to have low yr 1 & 2 cap numbers, so don't get fooled by these numbers, after Armstead's release is official, the 49ers top 10 players account for $165.289M of their near $300M adjusted cap that they can spend on players this season.

Don't even worry, the 49ers can afford what the Eagles can, extending BA & Ward saves $7.999M for BA & $9.148M for Ward, we currently have 10 players at $10M or more a yr, with just Ward unsigned for 2025, I didn't include BA as it's his 5th yr option, & still part of his rookie deal.

The 49ers will pay in cap room $202.315M for their top 10 cap numbers for 2025.

LT Williams - $34.106M
MLB Warner - $29.174M
NT Hargrave - $28.125M
WR Samuel - $24.2M
TE Kittle - $22.085M
DE Bosa - $20.519M
RB McCaffrey - $14.344M
DE Floyd - $10.108M
DT Collins - $10M
DE Gross-Matos - $9.653M

The 2025 cap is expected to be around $280M, with the roster projections, calculations, before an extension for BA, but including Ward extension that would replace his dead money hit of $12.298M, I have the 49ers only $7.3M over that $280M cap, with around 34 players signed, $21.58M over with 51 players signed, but if the 49ers extend both BA & Ward, they save as I said $7.999M & $9.148M for those two deals, in addition to projecting between $15M-$17M in cap room for 2024, as the 52nd & 53rd player makes minimum of $795K each, the Practice Squad costs a bit over $4.4M for 2024, if they extend BA & Ward, the 49ers could be as much as $32.147M-$34.147M under their 2024 adjusted cap, & taking away $5M for emergency roster moves, they should be able to carryover between $27.147M-$29.147M into 2025, if Aiyuk has say a $12M cap hit in 2025, which would be from a $25M signing bonus in 2024($5M prorated), a fully GTD $1.255M base salary, plus a $20M option bonus in 2025(prorates at $4M over 5yrs), add in $750K per game roster bonuses, & $100K workout bonuses, which gives him a $11.105M cap hit, while Ward's 2025 cap hit would be no more than the pending $12.298M dead money hit, which would put the 49ers $18.405M over with 36 players signed, or $32.685M over with 51 players signed, so they can carryover between $27.147M-$29.147M, they'd be $8.742M under with 36 players signed, or $5.538M over with 51 players signed, before a Brock extension, allowing them to keep the following players at $10M or more a yr going forward.

QB Brock - $50M (Would be signed through 2030 if it's a 5yr extension)
DE Bosa - $34M (Thru 2028)
WR Aiyuk - $28M (Would be thru 2029 if 5-year extension)
WR Samuel - $23.85M (Thru 2025)
LT Williams - $23.01M (Thru 2026)
NT Hargrave - $21M (Thru 2026)
MLB Warner - $19.085M (Thru 2026)
CB Ward - $19M (Would be signed thru 2029 if 5-year extension)
RB McCaffrey - $16M (Thru 2025)
TE Kittle - $15M (Thru 2025)

Now, I do expect the 49ers to let the following go in FA.

RB Elijah Mitchell, as the 49ers took Isaac Guerendo this year, plus the 49ers won't pay him good #2 RB money when Guerendo is on a rookie deal
WR Jauan Jennings, as we took both Ricky Pearsall & Jacob Cowing in this yrs draft
LG Aaron Banks, as 1. we took Dominick Puni & Jarrett Kingston in this yrs draft, and 2. the 49ers aren't paying Banks or any G $10M or more a yr.
SS Talanoa Hufanga, as the 49ers took Malik Mustapha in this yrs draft, plus no way the 49ers pay him top safety money.

The guys I'm 50/50 on.

WLB Dre Greenlaw, he needs to stay healthy, so he could be re-signed in the $10M a yr range, but we've taken Jalen Graham, Dee Winters, & Tatum Bethune in the last 2 drafts
CB Deommodore Lenoir, this one depends on his price tag TBH, I'd actually extend him now, get him cheaper than he'll likely be in 2025, plus we took Renardo Green this yr, & Darrell Luter Jr. in 2023, not saying Luter is anywhere near as good as DMo, but like I say the 49ers can't afford everyone.

In 2026 I have the 49ers projected to be $94.17M under a $305M projected cap with 32 players signed, $77.355M under with 51 players signed, of course this includes the 8 UDFAs, which I as of now have Evan Anderson making it as an 11th DL, while the only other ones I can see making it this year are Cody Schrader, & Drake Nugent, maybe Mason Pline.

Also for 2026, the 49ers have 3 deals that void after the SB(the 2025 season), Deebo, CMC, & Kittle, & if they can keep the production up, I see all 3 back, as they're set to count $26.406M in dead money, $13.625M for Kittle, $8.493M for Deebo, & $4.288M for CMC, and I believe we can get these 3 somewhere in that $26.406M number in cap hits, maybe up to $30M, reasoning why I don't see Deebo, CMC, or Kittle going anywhere anytime soon is because Kyle loves all 3 players, & I can't see Kyle signing off on cutting/trading any of these 3, or not re-signing them.

Another key thing is that Trent Williams could end up retiring at any point, I'd bet he'd retire in 2026, which saves the team $29.413M if he retires in 2026 before June 1, or $33.06M after June 1, and what I'd think the 49ers would do is take his $32.21M base salary, lower it to the vet minimum, which in 2026 would be $1.3M, so the 49ers would save $30.91M right away, while Trent would wait to officially retire until June 2nd, which the 49ers would then get the $1.3M back, so total of $32.21M saved, but that $30.91M in March would be helpful in ether retaining players, or bringing in additions or replacements via FA.

So, as I've said numerous times, the 49ers can afford 10-12 players making $10M or more a yr when Brock & BA are extended, plus the fact that Floyd & Collins likely aren't in the 49ers long term plans, which they could restructure someone in 2025, like Warner, save $13.116M, helping the 49ers keep both Dre Greenlaw, & Deommodore Lenoir on new multi-year deals averaging in the $10M-$12M a yr range, and as always, don't freak out when you see someone on here, or on social media/YouTube talk about the 49ers cap like they know the cap inside and out, TBH, there's a small percentage of people in this world who understand the salary cap fully, and I guarantee you the likes of Maiocco, Barrows, Cohn, Rapoport, Schefter, Garofolo, Pelisero, Darlington, and any other ESPN or NFL Network media member doesn't get the cap, maybe Louis Riddick, as he's worked in NFL front office(s), as well as NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, but he worked mostly as a scout, draft type of thing.
Ok an update on the 49ers salary cap room, before Pearsall signs his rookie deal they're $7,138,425 under their adjusted cap, which is $296,557,234, including a base $255.4M cap, $36,395,265 carryover, & $4,761,969 in adjustments/credits.

With Pearsall included it's $5,913,716 under their adjusted cap, & the 49ers will get that $18M on June 2nd, which will give them $22,898,128 in cap room, including Pearsall's rookie deal.

But I should note that the 49ers likely won't have $22M in cap room to begin 2024, I've done some projections, and I come up with between $16M-$18M, but this is before an Aiyuk extension which can save the team $7.999M, and if they could get Ward extended they'd save $9.148M.

As for some reasons why the team wouldn't have $20M, remember that player 52 & 53 will make a minimum of $795K each, and the PS will be around $4.4M.

Here's each breakdown of each Free Agent deal the 49ers have signed.
