Do you think the NFL Sunday ticket $12b judgment could have salary cap ramifications in the future?
Potentially, but with these class action lawsuits, from my understanding & others have said online, this could be on hold for years, maybe even until after the current CBA expires in 2031, rumors are the NFL will appeal, then try to ninth circuit court, then SCOTUS, so it's possible, but I don't think it'll have ramifications on the 2025 salary cap, nor 2026 & 2027, also those people waiting for their checks to come, they're gonna be waiting a while IMO, this won't get settled for years.
On one hand, I had the NFLST on DirecTV from 2006-2008, and again from 2010-2022, & they were expensive to have it, I was able to get it free a few years, & get somewhere in the $50-$70 off a month for 12 months on my base package, but once they lost the rights, I switched to YouTubeTV, which really isn't bad at all, it has pretty much every channel I watch, except for local RSNs like YES Network, MSG Network, which I subscribe to their streaming services through their websites/apps during Baseball & Hockey season, I used to watch REELZ a lot for OnPatrol Live, but Peacock carries REELZ live, so no issue there, the only other channels missing are like MLB Network, NHL Network, Hallmark(or it might be Lifetime, one of them is on, the other isn't, it's a channel my sister watches, not me), Cooking Channel, and AXS TV, which carries TNA wrestling, but if I wanted to get back into that I can subscribe to TNA+.
As for the NFLST, I paid $249 last year, and again this year, I do hope there are more options in the future for fans, cause their BS excuse that they're the most fan-friendly sports league, cause they give us all Sunday afternoon games free over the air, or locally, plus all primetime games, then the whole "we have NFL Network, NFL Sunday Ticket, & NFL+" as other options, of if they care at all about fans, they wouldn't make it so damn expensive, it was nearly $500 on DirecTV at one point towards the end, that was with the RZC & Fantasy NFL Channels, charging like $70 for that, ridiculous, when you look at the other 3 leagues, NBA, NHL, & MLB, they're all 1. affordable, 2. on damn nearly every tv provider, & 3. have both streaming options & one team package plans, hell the NBA is $99.99 a yr, NHL is $69.99, though the out of market games are on ESPN+, & MLB is $129.99(I believe), if they did care about the fans they would have either made it available to all tv providers, or taken ESPN's offer of charging just $70 for it, but nope, they chose the $2B they're getting, & prices as high as $489 for non YouTubeTV subs, & $389 for YouTubeTV subs, just ridiculous IMO.
But, as I said, I don't see the verdict, right now anyway, having an effect on the salary cap, now if it's upheld, & the NFL losses, being required to pay over $12B, the salary cap could be less than it should be, while the owners won't really feel the effect of this, it's the players who will end up effected the most, as the salary cap goes down, meaning less money for them, while the owners will still be billionaires.
