AB, you are the best I know with the numbers. Can you give us your perspective with what is all happening please?! Specifically how this very high dead cap money affects salary cap money.

This is how it looks in my workbook.

2025 NFL Salary Cap: $279,200,000
2024 Carryover: $50,096,964
2025 Adjustments: $11,256,718

2025 Adjusted Salary Cap: $340,553,682 (This is how much they can spend on player salaries for 2025, including dead money)

Total of all players salaries known + Hargrave & Collins: $229,031,027
Dead Money as of now: $77,609,798 (Goes up by $7.355M for Hargrave & $1.358M for Collins once June 2nd hits, saves the team $2,232,353 for Hargrave & $1.755M for Collins on June 2nd)

Total & Dead Money together: $306,640,825

Top 51 Rule (This is the top 51 players salaries on the roster, including Hargrave & Collins, plus any prorated bonuses for non top 51 players, & dead money): $295,240,825

Current Cap Room (Doesn't include Demarcus Robinson, Luke Gifford, Richie Grant, Tre Brown, Curtis Robinson, Luke Farrell, & Jason Pinnock) is $45,312,857

Looks like they're trying to do a quick rebuild. Thoughts?

I don't mind it, I didn't think they'd go crazy in FA, too many average players getting overpaid, Jaylon Moore at $15M APY? Crazy, Ward at $20M is fine, but we drafted Green, & should draft another CB in first 4 rounds, I would never have paid Banks $77M over 4yrs, that's just crazy, not when Ben Bartch who played better than Banks when Banks got hurt is on a veteran minimum deal, I get Hufanga getting $15M a yr, but I wouldn't have went that high, now Dre I would have went $15M a yr, as for releases, it sucks to lose Juice, but time to move on, Collins, Hargrave, & Floyd releases make sense.

But the 49ers have, before any FA deal, $45M in cap room, they also have, before the Farrell & Robinson deals, $74M in projected 2026 cap room, I'm not worried, team still has a lot of good players, Brock, CMC, Guerendo, Mason(for now), Aiyuk, Pearsall, Jauan, Cowing, Robinson, Kittle, Farrell, Puni, TW, Bartch, Bosa, Anderson, Davis, Okyuaninou, Fred, Winters, Bethune, Gifford, Lenoir, Green, Luter, T.Brown, Pinnock, J.Brown, Odum, Grant, Mustapha, those are some good names IMO.

You have quite a bit of a different definition of good than I do! I agree with your overall point, we do have a lot of good players yet, although I'd remove probably 10 of those names on your list. We have a lot of holes and this draft is absolutely crucial to reload.

Great job as always, thanks for the info. I have no problems with any of the moves so far. Nice to make all of these moves to get younger & faster now
So apparently the salary cap is approx $62.89M today. The draft class will cost approx $14.2M, giving approx $48.7M in space RIGHT NOW.
*obviously these are estimates but I imagine really accurate*

im curious what we are planning on doing and what things will look like once Brock is signed. I can see us extending Warner and Kittle to get more room.

We're going to rollover a lot of it.

Wouldn't surprise me. We've been doing that for several years in a row now to make the cap work. I think we will extend a couple guys like Warner and Kittle and roll a lot of that over next year.

thank you.
To be honest I do not really understand dead cap space, but from what I understand we have a lot of it. Why not just sacrifice a year to minimize it? From my EXTREMELY limited research this is what the 22' Atlanta Falcons did. If I am wrong can someone please explain this to me.
AB, so $74mil in projected cap space next year, correct?

If you sacrifice a year, you certainly can get rid of most of the dead cap and help a lot. A lot of teams spread dead cap for a player over two years so the hit isn't so dramatic. The dead cap for a single player can never be more than 2 years. The Deebo Samuel situation is a good example of biting the bullet now. We are taking all the dead cap on for his contract this year but atleast we're done with it. Javon Hargreaves contract is an example of dead cap this year and next year yet.

One thing that needs to be noted is some contracts have dead cap built into them, i.e. void years.

With our situation, even if we sacrificed one year, we still have some pretty crappy contracts. Trent Williams is one that will bite us. CMCs could too. We would have to trade those players and take the dead cap hit now to avoid it in 2027 and 2028.
