Ended up being 3yr $31.5M, so $10.5M APY, they tried to get him to pull out of his agreement, guess whatever we offered wasn't good enough, I would have done this deal, here's the breakdown on OTC, https://overthecap.com/player/dre-greenlaw/7939

I wish we could have convinced him to stay, and why we didn't offer a multi-year deal, he only got $11.5M fully GTD, just weird all around.
Thanks
For players, coaches and fans this is the one that was a gut punch…gotta get this done and if it didn't work out so be it…smdh

Yes this is the gut punch loss, Hufanga at $15M a yr no thanks, Banks at $19.25M a yr HELL NO, Moore at $15M a yr HELL NO, Ward at $18M a yr I'd do but he was gone after the tragedy, so I don't hold anything against anyone, he wanted a fresh start, and Deebo whatever the never lived up to the deal he got, as for Dre, $10.5M for 3yrs, makes no sense, only $13.5M GTD $11.5M is fully GTD, this is the loss that hurts the most, I wonder what we offered him to try to get him to pull out of the deal, no issue with Mason deal, not paying a RB2 $5M+, Collins & Floyd I might have kept for the time being until TC, well just Floyd, since Collins had a option bonus due, guys like Ya-Sin, Yiadom. Dobbs, Allen are all replaceable.

I also don't see the issues with the roster, it's still very talented, have a lot of young talent, still a talented core, deep roster IMO, but that's me, I like some of these signings, ST unit needed to be addressed, now need to fix the IOL & IDL, plus an EDGE opposite Bosa, speedy guy, he's never had someone opposite him since the Dee Ford debacle, 1 good yr, then injured rest of deal.

I don't think money was the deciding factor for Dre. It was being the #1 LB and vocal leader at the position on the roster, which was never going to happen with him playing alongside Warner.

I think this is the reason he wouldn't back out of the deal, he wanted to be LB1, but Fred is clearly LB1 here, but when I look at $10.5M APY that's not LB1 money for off ball LBs, Warner is gonna get $20M or more a year on a new deal, same for Kittle.
According to the front page article, we outbid the Broncos, but Dre wanted a fresh start, idk why, he was beloved in SF, core player, this is the ONLY loss that hurts this team IMO, man I hate this, I wish he would have stayed, obvious he wanted to be LB1 but Warner is LB1 and is gonna cash in this yr or next yr with a $20M+ a year extension, so looks like the 49ers were willing to open the wallet for Greenlaw, sucks, but wish Dre the best, except against us, nothing bad on him, just they lose, we win.

Dre's father said it best, if you stay in SF you'll be Pippin with Fred being Jordan. He told his son to go be Jordan, can't hate on that.

Bowman could have had that mentality BUT he wanted a ring. I understand the thinking but damn, elevate your game, or stay healthy and get a ring with SF bc it sure as s**t isn't going to happen in Den in the AFC
Update on the 49ers cap room, they're $38,480,453 under their adjusted salary cap as of 4/4/25.

Yeah, I just don't see how he wins a SB in Denver when they still have to face Mahomes twice, plus Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, idk if Denver is a playoff team for sure in 2025, I'll root for him to do good, but not against us.

No hate at all against Dre, go wherever you feel you're both being paid, & a team leader, just think he could have been one here, behind Bosa & Fred, idk, just hurts still, none of the other losses bothers me anywhere near losing Greenlaw.

Agreed.

hey AB81... what about some of the smaller names as post June 1 cuts?

Specifically Floyd, Collins, Elliott, Gross-Matos and Brendel.

doesn't seem like they would create too much dead money

Why would we cut most of those players though? Floyd has 6.5 sacks, Collins & Elliott have played well, Gross-Matos is young, Brendel I agree with, but they don't need the cap room, best to run it back 1 more year, everyone going doom & gloom, wanting to overhaul are nuts, we really want to go back to pre 2017 when we had Chip Kelly, Jim Tomsula as the HC? Or Baalke as GM? A guy who never spent, and now Jags fans want him gone.

Do we really want another relationship like we had with Harbaugh & Baalke, I hear people online(X/Twitter) saying Harbaugh would win a title with this roster, 49ers fans saying this s**t, yet he had as good, if not better roster, especially defensively, and couldn't get the job done either, refused to give Gore the ball on our last drive, never had a designed Kap run, 4 throws I think it was, no creativity, kept that tool Roman as OC, oh and let's not forget the stars who retired in 2014, Willis, J.Smith, also not like Baalke could draft any better than Lynch did, look at his 2012 draft, none of those picks made any f**king sense, I'm so sick of hearing people b***h, moan, and complain about Lynch when he's built a contender, 2024 isn't our year, big deal, you just need to retool, bring in a new DC & ST Coordinator, this is 2020 all over again, injury after injury after injury, those saying Brock has regressed & is injury prone, news flash everyone is f**king injury prone, our bodies were never meant to take this kind of punishment.

Sick of all of this nonsense on here, and X/Twitter, once something goes wrong, the usual reaction is to FIRE FIRE FIRE, I swear I now know why they call us the Forty Whiners.

lol

just remembered that this guy went off on me for asking hypothetical cap casualties that ended up coming true!

and I still think we're gonna end up cutting YGM and Elliott before Sept. 1
lol

Doubt they cut Gross-Matos now that $3M of his base salary became GTD, and the teams obviously not looking to eat cash, which is what they'd be doing by cutting, and I never said they wouldn't, I said they shouldn't cut Floyd, Collins, and the others, I still stand by that, should have held onto both until we had some sorta replacement for them, right now the DL is bare, 4 IDL, Bosa, YGM, & a bunch of mediocre players at EDGE, they NEED to upgrade in the draft.

We also ran a 3-4 when Bowman was here and for nearly two seasons before the horrific knee injury was arguably the best LB on the team. Dre was never going to be the "guy" here because Fred is clearly the better LB combined with the Defense we run he wasn't going to get the numbers or the control he probably wanted.
