when I boxed in college we used thick 16 oz gloves and our headgear was thicker than Magneto's helmet... even if you caught a thumb, the chances of a thumb poke from a 16oz glove was very minimal and if you did get poked it wasn't enough to do eye damage.
If they're sparring with 8oz gloves and no headgear.. well...

Sounds weird but boxing needs some promoters like De La Hoya and Arum again. Maybe not so stingy with the titles but that same energy. I mean, we had Guererro and Victor Ortiz fighting ? Is this 2011?
