There is 3 points separating 5 teams to get the last 2 slots in the west.
Ducks and Preds have 84 points and are at 7 and 8
Blues have 83
Wild and Oilers have 81
Its gonna be a nail biter to the end.

I just noticed something weird in looking at the NHL standings. There are 3 teams out of the 16 currently in the playoffs who either have an even +/- or a - in goal differential. That is just nuts. These teams are multiple games over .500.

Since my Stars are out, here is my order of rooting for teams in playoffs:
1. the Sharks, I'd love to see the Bay Area be even more hockey crazy. When the Stars won the cup, it was insane how much hockey grew in Dallas. It went from like 2 ice rinks in Dallas and now they are up to about 10 with a few in some malls.
2. Capitals - ummm..Ovechkin in the Stanley Cup Finals?!?! enough said.
3. Carolina - Erik Cole is one of my favorite players, I love the way this guy plays
4. NJ Devils - ohhh I hate the Devils, but Gionta and Parise are awesome.
5. Chicago - great to see them go deep, would do soooo much for the sport. Chicago deserves to be a serious hockey town but their team has been awful for so long.

Oh yeah, and about the alleged rumors about Modano retiring, no way he does this. He has 1 more year on his contract, I doubt he will end his career on a bad year, and next year he has an outside chance on making the US Olympic team.
It just makes too much sense for him to play 1 more year.
