Tyson vs. Ali

About Tyson being the hardest hitter, from everything I can find Earnie Shavers is considered the greatest and hardest hitter of all time.

Ali defeated him in 1977.
Ali said Shavers was the hardest puncher he ever faced "Earnie hit me so hard, it shook my kinfolk back in Africa",

I saw that fight live living in Japan at the time as a military brat.

Remember, Tyson seemed to have won that fight with a huge knockdown of BD but the ref gaving him sooooo much time to get up.

Also, Buster's Mom passed away just days prior to the fight so he was fighting with so much emotion and I guess it was enough to get him over the hump with Iron Mike.

The early 90's were the downfall of Tyson.

Pre 90's Tyson vs. Ali in Ali's prime---flip a coin.

Post 90's Tyson vs. Ali in Ali's prime---Ali would toy with Tyson all day long until Tyson grabs a hold of Ali's ear.

He wouldn't need to rope-a-dope Tyson, he did that to Foreman because Foreman was so much bigger. Ali is bigger than Tyson, Tyson wouldn't even be able to get close to Ali. The love Mike is getting is insane, this must be how Pete feels about Lebron.

Fact is Mike never beat ANYONE in his prime, whereas Ali beat everyone. So to assume Mike would beat anyone from any era is crazy to me. Mike never beat anyone of substance and lost mega fights to Holyfield (twice) and Lennox.

not saying Its a lock...either way , but had tyson been born 10 years earlier...he would have knocked an aged Ali out more then likely.....

But the only way you can look at this , is Prime VS prime...


for ME prime is DAmato ...... PERIOD.....

For me Tyson is two fighters....with Damato and with out.

With D'amato he was VERY defensively sound, was a VERY good technician in space that punished fighters that tried to stay outside of his range , he could run with any heavy weight from any era with the power to beat ANY OF THEM.

With out him...he was a waste of talent.....

I think larry homes in his prime would be the most likely to beat Either of the other two.

Tyson would have quit after Ali frustrated him and boxed him silly. Don't think of Ali in his later years. Think of Ali in his prime before his exodus. It would have been totally one sided.

Dude, everyone who's picking Tyson is the the 80's Tyson when he had D'Amato in his corner. You can't discount 37-0 in like 5 years. Ali went like 29-0 over the course of 9-10 years before his first loss?

We'll never know...might have to get those guys from deadliest battle to run some mock tests. I'm just saying Ali in his prime vs. Tyson in his prime (with D'Amato) each has a 50% chance of winning, flip a coin.

The real question is if Ali could hang with the current HW champion (don't know what belts but he holds all the significant ones), 6'5, 230lb Vladimir Klitschko, who's 53-3, 47 KOs :)

Tyson would have a 50-50 chance against... Frazier. Same style, similar size. George Foreman would have absolutley destroyed Tyson who couldnt beat guys bigger and stronger than him. Ali?? Just a complete no brainer. Ali would have made Tyson look silly.

I am guessing that anyone who says Tyson must be 40 or younger and did not see Ali fight in his prime.
