How about our WR corps? Light years better than last year. Remember how many drops they had? You gotta give it up to Marvin Jones also. Looks like a blooming star.

After week 1, JB is 3rd on my Heisman list.
1. Micheal Floyd (ND)
2. Jimmy Clausen (ND)

A few observations from last night......
*Jahvid is such a stud it is crazy. If he sees even the slightest of holes, he is gone. The way he gets that burst through the initial line of scrimmage is what sets him apart from other running backs.
*The bears don't really even lose a step with Shane in at RB. He has more power than JB but can still get out into the open field. He is also a threat in the passing game I hope he can improve a little more in the return game
*If Riley can look like that every game, I feel real confident in our chances at a BCS Bowl. He had more confidence than I have ever seen in him. He spread the field pretty well and had the perfect touch on the long ball. (1 long TD was easy because the defender slipped but the other was so beautifully placed) The big difference is the mobility he showed over last years Longshore. On his 1st TD throw he escaped the pocket, escaped a sack and kept his composer for a TD pass. If Riley can consistantly throw the deep ball that will allow the bears to run better as the defense will have to drop defenders.
*The WR core seemed much improved from last year. The ran great routes and held onto the ball really nicely. Created good seperation between defenders. Jones looks like he could be stud.
*The defense as a whole played a very good game. The secondary seemed like it was preventing against the big play as they consistantly gave up the 8-yard pass. Syd is a stud and a true lockdown corner. he can play with the best of them. The front 3 played very solid and got a couple sacks. I wish I would have seen more pass rush from the OLB but I guess I just miss Follett!
*The kicking game is definitely the most pressing issue. Kickoffs were horrible as Maryland would be catching them at the 20 and return to 35 or 40 on most drives. We need someone to ste up and consistenly put them in the endzone. Punting was fine and we didnt really see a chance at a long FG.
*Overall great game albeit against Maryland but the team showed first and foremost that they are ready to play this year. GO BEARS
