I dunno, LeBron is all about being a celebrity and going to LA or NY makes the most sense from celebrity/advertising stand point IMO.

Lebron could have gone to Chicago or NY in 2010. You don't pick Miami if being a celebrity is all you care about when you can go to NY or Chicago. Also, Lebron tried to recruit guys to Cleveland but Wade refused.

I think Miami and NY are more of a Celeb. spot than Chicago.

We are not talking about celebrity spot. Chicago is a much bigger market with a pretty amazing NBA history. If you want to be more celebrated and want more cameras in your face then you pick NYC/Chicago over Miami.

If you want good weather and low taxes you pick Miami over NYC and Chicago.

Lebron took less money to go to Miami...so I don't think couple million dollars a year make a real difference to him. He's 28...spends plenty of time back in Akron, Ohio. Doubt he cares about weather at this stage in his life. He cares about his legacy...these things are petty.

IMO, Lebron will go with the FO that is capable of puttin' championship worthy squad. This is why, I feel that he won't leave Pat Riley and join another team...for more money, weather, market, etc.

He took less NBA salary money. Which is a small part of his annual compensation when you include endorsements. And in his case he makes so much that low taxes matter a lot.

Sure...but it's not much of a difference. The difference in tax-burden between playing in NYC and Miami is 3.5% - and I'm quite positive he would have made more money in NYC or Chicaco from local sponsors than he did in Miami.

IMO, people make too much of an issue about taxes. Local government need money and they will get it one or the other. For people making millions of dollars playing basketball...a couple of %s isn't going to make a whole lot of difference.

Your #'s are already wrong since it's 2010. During the financial hardship CA increased theirs to the highest in the nation. FL has 0% on income. Now they get you other ways. You got property tax, car registration, and other things. But zero in state on income is a pretty big deal.
You guys are greatly overstating the differences of state taxes (CA vs. FL, TX) on NBA players. Larry Coon is working on a comprehensive piece explaining this, but I don't know when it will be out. But at the end of the day, it's not that big of a deal. Here's an excerpt of his overall point...

– Players pay a jock tax for each "duty day" they spend in most other states. If a player in the Western conference plays two road games with each California team, he'll have at least eight duty days in California, and pay over 13 percent on at least 8/170 of his income. The jock taxes eat into players' net income, even if they play in states without a state income tax.

– Texas doesn't have a state income tax, but that's not the only form of tax out there. There's municipal taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, etc. There's also cost-of-living differences, different endorsement earning potential, etc. So you can't look at state income tax in isolation and draw any conclusions. It's nuanced and complicated. http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-salary-cap-chat-with-larry-coon-53113
Side benefit of LeBron coming to LA would be 4ML & Reign becoming Laker fans.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Never. I ain't too worried, Lakers have pretty much 0 shot at LeBron.

Personally I don't think he leaves Miami after next season. I think they win it all again. So they all don't opt out and go for 4 in a row. Then with possibly 4 MVP/Championship/MVP Finals in a row he can worry less about his legacy in the game and more about his celebrity. But even then he is still in his prime. I think he waits until like 35 to make his journey to one of the "big" cities to make one final cash in on his talent and celebrity.

Yeah I forget easily how young Lebron is

His last decision came in 2010. Taxes and weather are not going to be much of a factor in his decision. Look at what NYC has done to 'Melo's popularity. He'd be raking in several more million dollars from local sponsors and appearances. He could even negotiate a better deal with current sponsors. Yes, Miami Heat were extensively covered, but had he gone to NY - they'd be covered like never before.
